Job description
The Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) serves as an additional patient care provider, augmenting the services and extending the availability of patient care provided by the practice's health care team. The PA-C will exercise his or her patient care and medical decision making autonomy within established clinical parameters mutually agree to and set forth upon hire, and will provide a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic service as defined within those clinical parameters. The expected patient population encountered by the PA-C will range from the accepted age for young patients to geriatric patients.
Requirements
Clinical
- Obtains patient histories and performs physical examinations.
- Orders and/or performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/test.
- Formulates working diagnoses for patients.
- Develops and implements treatment plans.
- Monitors therapeutic effectiveness of treatment plans.
- Documents in the patient's medical records all pertinent clinical findings.
- Assists physicians with in-office and hospital surgical procedures.
- Provides patient counseling, education, and coordination of care as necessary.
- Makes appropriate patient referrals to practice physicians and other health care providers.
- Lends assistance and provides solutions to scheduling personnel for patient triage problems as requested.
- Performs other clinical duties as directed by supervising physician(s).
- Participates in clinical meetings held by practice physician(s).
- Performs call and hospital responsibilities as scheduled and/or requested by physician(s).
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
• Administration
- Reports to CEO/Manager for personnel matters and concerns.
- Submits all request for leave, continuing medical education to Supervisor in a timely manner to approval and absences from work.
- Coordinates with Clinic Manager regarding operational issues such as patient scheduling, medical assistance provided by certified medical assistant and nurses, and other patient-flow matters.
- Complete the providers section of managed care referral forms for referral to specialty care and/or diagnostic testing as required by each individual patient's health insurance plan.
- Complete the clinical portion of third-party payer inquiries and disabilities form as required/requested by billing personnel and/or the practice administrator or practice physicians.
- Complete patient sick certificates and other associated patient care forms.
- Participate in required or requested office meetings.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education and Qualifications Attain and retain certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Retain licensure to provide covered physician assistant services in the state of Iowa
Physician Assistant consistently demonstrates satisfactory acquisition and implementation of skills in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders.
Physician Assistant does not engage in, nor work for any individual, firm, or corporation engaged in, the same or similar activities now or hereafter carried on by Steindler Orthopedic Clinic, PLC during the time of employment without the consent of the Executive Committee of Steindler Orthopedic Clinic, PLC.
Physician Assistant does not act in contradiction to the ethical standards established by the American Medical Association and the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants, and shall conduct himself/herself both privately and professionally in such manner as will not reflect discredit to Steindler Orthopedic Clinic, PLC.
Expected Hours of Work Requires flexible work schedule as work load varies from day to day and time of day. Will be scheduled a rotating "on call" schedule.
Work Environment Will work in both an office/clinic setting and a surgical setting.
