GENERAL INTRODUCTION :

Each position employed in the Chancery helps to extend the ministry of the Archbishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description. In order to fulfill his mission as the Shepherd, the Archbishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people).

This role is part of the Communications team, which is focused on evangelization and support of the parishes, schools and other archdiocesan entities. Specifically, the team uses strategic communications to inform, educate, inspire and challenge people to live the fullness of their Catholic faith.

GENERAL SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL PURPOSE :

We are looking for a strong individual communications contributor who also thrives in a team environment. This role is dedicated to elevating communications between the Chancery and parishes, schools and other archdiocesan entities. This role is responsible for Chancery to parish communications including the weekly e-newsletter, special announcements, communication campaigns and more. This person is also responsible for the content on the internal SharePoint website for Chancery employees, as well as select content on the For Parish section of the archdiocesan website. In partnership with the Communications team this person will lead internal campaigns including strategy development and execution.


In addition to internal communications, this person will also support with external media relations with a focus on proactive storytelling. This would include proactive pitching and relationship building with local media.

ESSENTIAL POSITION DUTIES:
  1. Manages short- and long-term planning and execution for internal communication strategy.
  2. Writes, reviews, edits and proofreads internal communications including newsletters, letters and bishop statements.
  3. Secures photos, audio and video content linked to internal and external campaigns when appropriate.
  4. Maintains a current level of knowledge and skills required to effectively serve as a strategic communicator.
  5. Partners with key internal stakeholders including Human Resources to support their employee related communications.
  6. Works with Chancery leadership and the rest of the Communications team to ensure employees remain integrated with the overall archdiocesan communications strategy.
  7. Supports the overall efforts of the Communications team by participating in the planning and execution of other projects as appropriate. This includes writing and or editing written material for the Archbishop.
Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS :

Primary:
  1. Willingness and ability to support the mission of the Catholic Church by extending the ministry of the Archbishop.
  2. Ability and desire to use God-given gifts and talents in service of the local Church in support of the collaboration between lay and ordained Ministers.
  3. Active member of a parish/faith community in good standing with the Catholic Church.
  4. Willingness to conduct all interactions on behalf of the Communications team with respect and charity.
Education:
  1. Bachelor degree.
Experience:
  1. 5-7 years experience as a strategic communicator including plan development for internal communications and external media relations.
  2. Experience with writing, editing and content production.
  3. Experience with writing and designing newsletters, editing websites, and using other digital communication tools. Experience with WordPress and an email marketing platform such as Mailchimp a plus.
  4. Graphic design experience preferred.
  5. Experience sharing stories with media including story development, interviews and placement.
Other Elements:
  1. Written English/Spanish fluency preferred.
  2. High degree of responsiveness with Communications team and internal stakeholders.
  3. Must provide writing samples.
  4. Maintains a professional appearance and demeanor.

Any offered salary is determined based on internal equity, internal salary ranges, market data, applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications.
