Examples of Work:

-Serve as conduit for statewide and national strategic initiatives through the Office of the State Librarian.

-Coordinate projects that leverage the strengths of the NJ State Library and its component units to advance library services to the people of New Jersey.

-Provide full-scale project management for statewide and/or national initiatives.

-Assess new partnership opportunities and project ideas for relevance and fit with NJSL’s mission, vision and values.

-Foster relationships with state agencies working to foster growth, equity and prosperity for New Jerseyans.

-Provide statewide and national leadership in focal areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

-Knowledge of library organizations and library services.

-Experience with library culture in New Jersey.

-Ability to research and analyze project potential with limited initial information and focus on achieving goal.

-Willingness to innovate and take risks while seeking to improve New Jersey’s capacity to use libraries to foster growth, equity and prosperity for New Jerseyans.

-Ability to maximize the use of limited resources to attain outcomes.

-Collaborative approach to project planning, design and implementation.

-Demonstrates high degree of emotional intelligence.

-Appreciation for the role of libraries in building community.

-Familiarity with content digitization principles and concepts.

-Knowledge of library services to people with disabilities and other traditionally marginalized communities.

-Ability to generate solutions to complex problems.

-Skill in navigating complex programmatic and organizational situations.

-Excellent written and oral communication skills.

-Tactful, direct communicator that fosters trust and transparency while building strong relationships.

-Knowledge of project/program measurement and assessment approaches and tools.

-Appreciation for the role of data in designing and executing library activities.

Experience and Education:

-BA required, Masters of Library and Information Studies (accredited) preferred.

-A minimum of 8 years professional experience working on complex multi-organization programs, initiatives and/or projects.

-Demonstrated experience in implementing strategic plan(s), goal(s) or priorities.

-Demonstrated record of developing and executing innovative programs.

-At least 5 years of experience with New Jersey libraries.

-Demonstrated leadership experience

-Creative thinker and problem solver

-Highly collaborative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills

-Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office products

-Demonstrated budget management experience

-Attention to detail and timeliness
