Be Part of the Story at The Walt Disney Company as the Associate Sourcing Manager, Sustainable Materials Sourcing – Plush and Home Décor! In this role, you will support a ‘Fabric/Material First’ strategy and process discipline throughout the product-to-market process for the Plush and Home Décor Categories. This position is responsible for tracking progress in the production cycle utilizing the Product Lifecycle Management system (PLM) to ensure alignment at each key milestone throughout the Product to Market. This role assists in the achievement of our 2030 Sustainable Materials goals.
This role reports to the Senior Manager, Sustainable Packaging & Sourcing
This is a Full-Time role.
Build and maintain our physical and digital libraries with core, novelty, and sustainable options that include supplier and costing data. Enter & maintain material data library in the PLM system.
Partner in driving vendor strategies on costing, placement, and production management of materials.
Negotiate cost and delivery terms with suppliers and agents; maintain costing rate cards for all Suppliers and Manufacturers. Regularly update cross-functional teams on fabric and trim costing trends.
Define a clear supplier matrix; clear instructions for Suppliers/Manufacturers on where to source specified materials. Annual review of Suppliers and matrix updates; communication to Suppliers on annual Scorecard results.
Proactive identification of future material development requirements; anticipates needs for future development and routinely proposes new material R&D opportunities. Routinely counter-source cost-effective alternatives and negotiate volume-related cost reductions.
Use tools to support the Category Sourcing Managers to aid in costing simulations based on material selections.
Own seasonal and ongoing material development, including day-to-day meetings and communicating with design, fabric mills, global sourcing, and overseas offices.
Collaborate with the Product Integrity team to ensure proposed materials meet all existing and foreseen Safety/Quality/Regulatory guidelines.
Attend material and industry shows, meeting regularly with suppliers, mills, and factories to present innovative ideas. International travel required.
1+ years of experience in fabric sourcing, textile engineering science, material science or sustainability field or equivalent education in fabric sourcing, textiles engineering, or sustainability field. Apparel, specialty retail, or consumer product development experience is required.
Solid understanding of fabric construction and performance.
Ability to review technical specifications, interpret desired fabric characteristics, and translate these into production; recommend alternative and more cost-effective options.
Active self-starter and learner; ability to adapt quickly to changing business strategies and corporate sustainability priorities.
Domestic as well as overseas sourcing and negotiating experience; understanding of business culture and communication styles in China, SE Asia, Indian Sub-Continent, Central and South America.
Production Manufacturing and product engineering, global trade regulations, global testing protocol, global product integrity, production cycle timeline, calendar management, fabric performance, and garment/product construction.
Knowledge of sustainable materials, provide subject matter expertise on processes and requirements of various Certifications; ensuring materials meet safety and quality standards. Knowledge of the Product Integrity processes.
Advanced MS Excel skills that can be used to combine and analyze data from various sources and generate reports and graphics to help drive decision-making. Apply results to control costs of materials and production.
Ability to inspire, think creatively and strategically, and act tactically.
Effective and influential communicator in written and verbal form.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and timelines while working collaboratively with design and development partners; a teammate.
