Job description
JOB SUMMARY:
Under general direction of the Division Manager, the IAS Technician shall provide troubleshooting services at customers' facilities, including PLC and HMI systems, build control panels, and assist engineering and automation staff.
Technicians will work with customers, IAS personnel, and Shaw Electric staff to successfully complete projects. Technician should be good ambassador for the company and help generate sales and repeat business.
The Technician shall be responsible for the profitable completion of assigned tasks and/or projects by determining and applying proper operational procedures, and through the planning, management, and coordination of labor, material and/or equipment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Construct and install electrical and control systems by building panels, terminate wiring, and installing power and control wiring to the customers' satisfaction and according to industry codes/requirements.
- Develop and install control systems, including PLC control devices, PLC programming, wireless devices, industrial networks, and field devices and instruments.
- Regularly perform advanced trouble shooting on induction motors, relays and logic, low voltage power systems, multiple machines (electrical and mechanical), complex PLC controls, physical instrument loops, and communication systems.
- Perform high voltage testing and maintenance on breakers, starters, transformers, cables, and other substation equipment.
- Regularly interface with customers, IAS and Shaw Electric staff and others to ensure successful completion of large projects.
- Provide support services to customers by understanding and solving customers' needs to a satisfactory conclusion.
- Perform thermography studies by taking thermography images, identifying overheating and other electrical issues, creating reports and presenting to customers.
- Effectively supervise others through positive coaching, feedback, and training.
- Research and collect pertinent data for analysis and classification regarding project tasks.
- Promote/Market Shaw Electric/IAS services by identifying and persuading potential customers to use our services. Sales/Marketing should be promoted by providing customers with exceptional service and forecasting potential needs.
- Generate and collect information in order to complete and file accurate reports for internal and external use.
- Gather information in order to make appropriate decisions regarding customer equipment and performing services.
- Ensure quality of work by implementing methods/processes such as double checking work, consulting others, checking prints and other written specifications.
- Must arrive at assigned work on time and at various jobsite locations. Shift times may vary and locations of the jobsite may require travel of up to 75 miles or more each way per day, and/or require the employee to stay overnight out-of-town one or more nights per week for extended periods of time.
- Possess all required tools (industry-wide and from company required tool list)
- Demonstrate ability to complete projects within budget and estimated hours of labor
- Demonstrate ability to communicate with project owners, site directors, IAS and Shaw Electric Project Managers.
- Conscientiousness and coordination of work-in-progress including communication with related trades and project manager.
- General supervision of jobsite employees including coordination and assignment of job tasks, and the timely completion and submission of required personnel reports, specific job analysis reports, and annual performance evaluations.
- Responsibility for job material including ordering material to arrive on a timely basis, receiving material at the job site, checking for accuracy and condition of material, processing paperwork on a timely basis (i.e., making sure all packing slips are processed)
- Ensure timely return and accurate check-in of unused materials, tools, and equipment.
- Manage jobsite housekeeping (including scrap wire)
- Demonstrate ability to process paperwork necessary to maintain daily job log book, perform change orders, material returns, safety documentation, and updating as-built drawings on a timely basis
- Responsible for planning and monitoring job progress, including prioritizing job activities and utilizing Accubid extensions to determine and order material, schedule labor, and meeting job deadlines
- Conduct and document weekly safety meetings and tool box chats
- Responsible for coordination with the Shaw Electric, Inc. Safety Manager and IAS Division Manager to promote and document safe work practices on job sites to ensure compliance with customer, OSHA, and Shaw Electric, Inc. company guidelines.
