Job description
Position Summary : The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for the management of Suncoast Humane Society’s volunteer programs. Essential duties and responsibilities include recruiting, training, orienting, managing, supporting, tracking, and evaluating all volunteers for Suncoast Humane Society’s programs. These include volunteers at our shelter location, pet store locations, Thrift Store locations, and special events (on and off-site). The Volunteer Coordinator also provides guidance, support, resources and tools to other staff who supervise and work with volunteers.
Position Classification: Full Time/Hourly/Paid Healthcare/Comprehensive Benefits Package
Supervisor: The Volunteer Coordinator reports directly to the Director of Innovation and Community Engagement.
Starting Rate: $20/hr
Location: Based out of the Suncoast Humane Society Shelter
Responsibilities:
Qualifications: 1 to 2 years of experience working with volunteers preferred (this experience may include leading, training, or supervising other volunteers as a volunteer). Animal welfare experience or prior work with a nonprofit organization preferred. Able to work flexible hours, which will include weekends and some evenings. Valid driver’s license with access to reliable transportation. Passion for the mission of Suncoast Humane Society. Knowledge of and commitment to animal welfare issues.
Skills and Experience: Ability to communicate skillfully and effectively with a diverse staff, volunteers and community in a professional, pleasant, respectful, and courteous manner. Strong interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations. Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures. Ability to problem solve and work with minimal supervision. Experience handling and caring for cats and dogs in a safe, effective, and humane manner.
Computer Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office applications, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Experience with volunteer software (Volgistics) preferred. Comfortable learning new systems.
Physical Demands: Individuals will frequently be required to speak publicly; stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time, hear sufficiently; reach, bend or stoop, regularly lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
Occupational Disclaimer: This position works daily in an animal shelter. This position will come in direct contact with animals and will be exposed to animal related smells and sounds.
