TRAUMA REGISTAR, FULL-TIME DAYS

Summary: Under the general direction and supervision of the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director, the Trauma Registrar demonstrates knowledge and ability in trauma registry methodology, case abstraction, data entry, coding and simple ad hoc reporting on trauma patients according to the guidelines established by the American College of Surgeons, Trauma Quality Improvement Program (TQIP), the State of Ohio Trauma Acute Care Registry (TACR) and the Northeastern Ohio Regional Trauma Network (NORTN).
The registrar performs all data collection, abstraction, and entry of all trauma patients into the Trauma Registry. The registrar assigns ICD-10, ISS, AIS, E-Codes, and Trauma Scores.
Collect, abstract, and accurately enter trauma patients information in the trauma registry in a timely manner. Complete final entry of patient data no later than 60 days post discharge.
Assist in the preparation for American College of Surgeons Level I trauma center verification.
Documents and records data with an 80% or higher accuracy.
1.Formal Education Required: a.Associates degree (Nursing, Health Information Management (HIM) or other coding/medical/biological science field) or equivalent combination of education and/or experience that has provided knowledge of healthcare clinical or coding processes.
2.Experience & Training Required: a.Trauma registry preferred
b. Experience in computer programs/software- Database software preferred
c.Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
d. Experience in ICD-10CM coding, AIS/ISS coding and scoring, E codes preferred
e.Certified Specialist in Trauma Registries (CSTR) designation by The American Trauma Society's Trauma Registry and Data Council (TRDC) or the Abbreviated Injury Scale Certification (CAISS) designation by the AIS Certification Board preferred.
3.Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications: a.Typing speed of 30 wpm
b.Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
c.Must maintain confidentiality/HIPAA compliance of patient records
d.Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with physicians and other hospital personnel
e.Ability to screen and accurately abstract pertinent diagnoses, procedures and clinical data from the medical record
f.Proficient in Microsoft Office; especially Excel, computerized databases, Electronic Medical records
g.Demonstrates ability to collate and assess raw data, ability to analyze data.
h.Must maintain a high degree of accuracy in data collection and data validation
i.Strong organizational skills
j.Ability to operate a PC and related business machines with accuracy
k.Ability to be self-directed in executing responsibilities within a team structure and take initiative to contribute beyond the scope of formal duties (e.g., suggesting innovative ideas and providing feedback on a team's direction)
l. Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment
m. Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
n.Will successfully complete the American Trauma Society Registrar Course or State equivalent within 1 year of hire as required by the American College of Surgeons
o.Will successfully complete the Association of Advancement of Automotive Medicine Abbreviated Injury Scaling course within 1 year of hire as required by the American College of Surgeons
p.Achieve a minimum of 8 hours of trauma related continuing education annually as required by the American College of Surgeons
q.Participate in an ICD-10 course or refresher course every 5 years.

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
