The Chief Physician Executive Officer (CPEO) is a member of the CommonSpirit Health’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT) reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The CPEO is responsible for the full array of clinical activities across CommonSpirit Health, ensuring clinical excellence. Specifically, the CPEO will deliver systemized service line standards, deepen relationships between medical groups and community physicians, and reduce clinical variation. CommonSpirit will embrace a dyad model of leadership and as such the CPEO will work closely with the Chief Nursing Executive to provide excellent care and access in the communities we serve while addressing financial headwinds and other challenges.  Reporting to the CPEO is a nationally dispersed team of leaders comprising functions: clinical service lines; provider practice; advance practice; quality and safety; and academic medicine teams. Under the CPEO’s leadership, clinical leadership teams will design, implement, oversee and enhance interdisciplinary clinical programs to meet the needs of patients and communities across the continuum of care. The CPEO will represent clinical disciplines in discussions and decisions within and outside of CommonSpirit Health. 

• Actively participate in and provide clinical perspectives for the creation of the CommonSpirit Health’s strategic plan, lead the development of clinical aspects of the plan, and advance implementation of the plan in conjunction with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). 
• Provide leadership for the clinical enterprise’s quality and patient experience programs in both inpatient and outpatient settings striving for excellence in the nationally recognized rating programs (CMS Stars, Leapfrog, etc.). Ensure collaboration and coordination between care sites, especially those in geographic proximity to one another, in order to maximize services and clinical excellence to the communities we serve. 
• Lead clinical transformation efforts to support growth and overall organizational transformation, including building-out integrated delivery networks, strengthening network integrity, transitioning services to the most appropriate care settings, and redesigning care delivery to improve both the practitioner and patient experience. 
• Promote and achieve clinical excellence, including the dimensions of safety, quality, patient-centeredness, efficiency, and equity.
• Lead the identification and selection of clinical standards to reduce variation, enhance safety, quality and patient experience, reduce costs and ensure equity; partner with Regional Operations to wisely implement standards. Influence engagement with medical groups and all associated providers to practice in a manner consistent with local and national standards and practices. 
• Collaborate with Information Technology and other leaders in prioritizing investments in clinical technologies to support the workforce, be more consumer-centric, and create efficiencies and growth. 
• Build a culture among all caregivers that engages clinicians in setting and implementing organizational goals that support the mission and values of CommonSpirit Health.
• Collaborate with Regional Operations, Human Resources and clinical leaders in recruitment and retention to ensure sufficient numbers of clinical staff and requisite skills sets are available. 
• Establish programs to foster the joyful practice of medicine, promote wellness and reduce burnout. Design and implement programs to align and engage physicians and advanced practice providers. Identify potential future clinical leaders, develop their leadership aptitude and create leadership opportunities. 
• Support clinical research at CommonSpirit Health locations and collaborate with academic partners to expand access to and enrollment in clinical trials; reduce barriers to enrollment for underrepresented populations. Strengthen and leverage academic partnerships to cultivate our provider pipeline, attract top thought leaders, enhance our brand position, clinical programs, and provide cutting-edge clinical care.
• Provide leadership, oversight, and expansion of the clinical service lines in concert with CSH strategy: multidisciplinary teams of clinical leaders charged with facilitating the alignment, integration, coordination, and rationalization of the major sub-specialties (cardiology, Cancer, OB/GYN, etc.) and their clinical services across regions and across the health system. 
• Ensure the continuing growth of CommonSpirit Health by extension of networks, partnerships with other providers, communities, and/or employers.
• Maintain current knowledge of the healthcare industry including understanding new regulations and models of care to integrate into strategic decisions as part of the Executive Leadership team.

• Clinical M.D. degree and active license in at least one state required. 
• Doctoral degree required. 
• Minimum of 15 years of executive or senior healthcare leadership experience within a complex, multi-site, multi-area health care organization that provides acute and non-acute services.
• Current Clinical Professional License required.
• Executive leadership experience in a large, complex, and integrated healthcare system.
• Extensive experience with leading and building out the continuum of care: hospitals, large medical groups, academic and research groups, population health building out network integrity. 
• Experience with mergers and acquisitions, creation of various joint ventures and other growth strategies.
• Healthcare operational and financial acumen and knowledge and experience leading complex and innovative delivery models.
