Job description
Summary:
To ensure the efficient and cost-effective operation and stewardship of financial resources of the organization. The accountant will prepare financial reports to track the organization's assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities, including accounts payable, receivable, and payroll.
Job Responsibilities:

- Aids the Vice President of Accounting in formulating and administering financial policies and goals for both short and long-term goals and objectives.
- Prepares analyses of activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine that all departments meet stated goals and objectives. Develops a departmental budget and expenditure report for monthly costs and capital improvements.
- Responsible for staff payroll, payroll records and supervises bi-weekly hourly employee payroll.
- Performs general cost accounting and other related duties in the accounting department.
- Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, reconciles accounts, and assists in closing the monthly books.
- Reconciles bank accounts at least monthly, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks.
- Verifies payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Prepares periodic ad hoc reports and audits. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience and Special Skills:
- Experience with non-profit accounting preferred but not required.
- Extensive knowledge of general financial accounting and cost accounting.
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to generally accepted accounting principles.
- Experience managing the payroll process.
- Highly proficient with accounting software.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
Certificates and licenses:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required.
- Three to five years of accounting experience required.
