Supply Chain Logistics Leader – Transportation (Norfolk, VA)

Our client, a leader in wastewater, is currently hiring a Supply Chain Logistics Leader to be based out of one of their Headquarter locations- Norfolk, VA. Hybrid work schedule (2-3 days at home) acceptable.

This is a newly created role due to growth. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate.

Position is a Direct Hire (Possible full-benefited Contract for candidate that wants to “test the waters” (no pun intended), also an option. Team is onsite full time, 15 people total with 3 direct reports. This position can by hybrid but hire needs to be on site at least one day a week with the team. They can be flexible, but the person hired does need to live in the area. There is occasional travel for meetings but not day to day.

The Logistics & Transportation Leader will demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role, incumbent will utilize experience and expertise to lead the business’ logistics and transportation activities. Experience Managing a fleet of drivers (in beverage or water-related industry is a plus), is required. Knowledge in this area- Knowledge managing driving fleet is crucial to manage Supply Chain, and, to bring knowledge such as this to the team.

The logistics team today is responsible for dispatching units, taking orders, and facilitating all North America (NAM) equipment movements for the WTS ES Services business. The leader taking the role will need to have the ability to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for self and others, and effect short-term and some long-term business goals.

Essential Responsibilities:

The role will be based out of Norfolk, VA facility where our logistics and business unit leadership teams are based.

Provide oversight for coordination and optimization of all inbound, domestic, and outbound shipments for region.

Responsible for NAM Logistics activity execution to include, but not limited to: (NAM North American) Order Entry, Processing & Tracking, Driver Dispatching, Call Routing, Customer Service, Order Scheduling.

3rd party logistics vendor/partner management.

Meet or exceed customer schedule and delivery requirements.

Monitor and update team plan to schedule and coordinate equipment.

Develop, own and maintain budget encompassing all fields of Transportation & Logistics activities.

Own & set standards/expectations for all NAM professional driving personnel as well as team managing professional driving personnel.

Set & ensure KPIs are being tracked; Regular reporting.

Implement and maintain NAM professional driver delivery personnel strategy.

Maintain suitable balance between internal driving team and contract hauling.

Maintain/enhance training for logistics team to ensure own and maintain budget encompassing all fields of Logistics activities.

Define, scope and select projects that will positively impact Logistics & Transportation Cost.

Identify and reduce cost and process variation by developing strategy and applying Lean Six Sigma tools and tactics where needed.

Own, refine, & report KPIs for the Logistics organization + NAM Transportation costs overall.

Work with business customs team and if necessary, act as a customs Leader, responsible for all import and export customs clearances, customs inspections and corporate customs audits; Train back-up within organization.

Ensure smooth and safe environment to meet criteria from customs point of view.

Conduct regular project reviews with project leaders and champions to assure accomplishment of key results.

Communicate progress, status, and issues to champions, cross-functional teams, and business leaders.

Drive formal project reviews prior to shipment to ensure all deliverables have been met on time and under budget.

Ensure that critical milestones for projects are noted, recognized, and met in both time and cost.

Partner with broader WTS fleet to ensure business expectations are met for fleet support.

Partner with other organizations (HR, Sourcing, Digital Solutions, Sustaining Fleet, etc.) in the business to achieve KPI goals and productivity.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.

At least 7 years of experience in logistics managing transportation fleet.

At least 5 years in a leadership role strongly-preferred.

Prior experience in managing change, implementation of new processes.

Degree in Business Administration / Supply Chain / Industrial Engineering or related field.

Strong problem solving, quantitative, and analytical skills.

Ability to lead and direct multi-functional teams.

Ability to work in high stress situations.

Strong negotiation skills.

Strong planning / program management skills with forecasting capabilities.

Lean Six Sigma training.

Experience in broader supply chain environment / organization.
