Ideal Candidate Statement The ideal candidate:
- Will need to be available at 6:00 am daily and should be able to work on weekends and, occasionally, after-hours.
- Should feel comfortable performing pool services, and general maintenance, without support.
- Be comfortable working with other team members to resolve larger issues.
- Should have experience with hand and power tools, be able to drive a District vehicle, be comfortable in confined spaces that produce loud noises, and should understand and articulate the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
- Have knowledge on the various trades within a facilities crew to be able to lend assistance to other technicians.
- Have a working knowledge of pool safety, pool operations, and pool chemical distribution.
- Must be comfortable working inside the pool and on the pool deck.
Position Description Under the direction of the Supervisor, Maintenance and Operations, this position is provided on the job training and is responsible for performing apprentice level work by assisting in all areas of the skilled trades. The position is also expected to perform basic maintenance for the District swimming pool.
Duties and Responsibilities - Conducts basic servicing and adjustments of HV AC systems.
- Conducts basic assistance in the installations and repair of electrical wiring, equipment, appliances, or fixtures.
- Provides assistance with routine automotive repairs and the refueling of District vehicles.
- Performs basic locksmithing support functions such as, but not limited to, the cut and/or duplication of keys.
- Support the plumbing area by performing duties such as, but not limited to, assisting in the cutting of pipes, pre-assembly, and installations of plumbing systems and components.
- Conducts routine maintenance for the District swimming pool.
- Comply with all applicable standards, policies, or procedures, such as safety procedures or the maintenance of work areas.
- Performs preventive, or general maintenance, of all maintenance equipment.
- Transfers tools, parts, equipment, and supplies to and from workstations and other areas.
- Supply tools, parts, equipment, and supplies for other workers.
- Prepares workstations for more skilled workers.
- Effectively engage and support historically minoritized groups by addressing issues of equity and improving culturally responsive service-oriented practices.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Of: - Common hand tools and construction equipment.
- Pool maintenance.
- Safety practices used at all construction sites.
- General office software.
Skills To: - Apply knowledge of common hand tools to provide basic assistance in all areas of the skilled trades, supply the appropriate equipment to senior level staff, and to maintain equipment.
- Apply knowledge of swimming pool to provide general maintenance to the District swimming pool.
- Apply knowledge of safety practices used at all construction sites minimize the risk of injury.
- Use general office software to communicate with District staff and vendors.
Abilities To: - Effectively provide assistance to all areas of the skilled trades.
- Effectively ensure that safety practices are adhered to.
- Effectively problem solve when issues arise during a project.
- Make accurate measurements.
- Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and outside vendors.
Minimum Qualifications Any combination equivalent to: One (1) year of experience working in construction, a skilled trade, or a related field;
AND Must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practices.
Desirable Qualifications - Possess a Pool Operator Certificate.
- Bilingual and Biliterate.
- Related specialized training(s).
Physical Characteristics - Pushing, pulling, and lifting 11 -25 lbs.
- Kneeling, climbing, crouching, balancing, and sitting.
- Stooping, reaching, standing, and walking.
- Communicate, read material, and interpret.
Environmental Elements - Indoor/outdoor working environment.
- Exposed to weather that can be cold, mild, or hot.
- Frequently works around dust or airborne particles, caustic chemicals, hazardous chemicals, and sharp tools.
- Potential risk of electrical shock.
- Occasionally work at high heights and constrained spaces.
