General Summary : Middlesex Community College is looking for faculty members who are creative, knowledgeable, welcoming, and flexible individuals who provide instruction to a diverse student body, teaching courses in the English Department, primarily integrated developmental reading and writing, co-requisite composition courses (such as the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) model), first semester, and second-semester composition. These faculty members will work with the Dean, Department Chair, and other faculty in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of coursework and curriculum relevant to the English department and participate in college service and student advisement. These faculty members should be committed to inclusive excellence and equity, as well as continuous professional improvement, supported by the college and fellow faculty members.
Duties and Responsibilities :
- Teach fifteen credits in English Composition courses and/or integrated developmental reading and writing, co-requisite (ALP), and other courses as needed each semester;
- Explore new pedagogies that accelerate and contextualize composition studies, and developmental instruction such as the Accelerated Learning Program (ALP) and the Reading Writing & Reasoning (RWR) accelerated learning models;
- Develop and use successful student-centered, equity-informed pedagogies;
- Develop and use assessment strategies that maximize the learning process and measure student learning outcomes;
- Develop and apply instructional methods that engage students of varying learning styles and abilities;
- Develop and apply technology in and out of the classroom, including the use of laptops, or tablets for the instruction of composition and/or reading, and the use of the college's current Learning Management System;
- Support and foster a culture of civic and community engagement;
- Participate in department, division, and college committees and activities as needed;
- Advise students.
- Fulfill terms of the faculty contract as set out in the Agreement between the Board of Higher Education and the Massachusetts Community College Council/Massachusetts Teachers Association.
Job Requirements: - Master's degree in English, writing, reading, rhetoric, composition, literature, or Master's degree in Education/Teaching with a concentration in English.
- Successful classroom teaching experience in composition and/or developmental writing or reading classes.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, continuous professional improvement, developmental and college-level education, inclusive pedagogies, and use of technology to support student learning.
- Willingness to work collegially with a diverse body of faculty and staff on departmental, divisional, and college-wide initiatives.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the role of the community college in higher education.
- Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Community college English course teaching experience.
- Experience with innovative developmental and first-year college writing pedagogies.
- Demonstrated ability to develop or apply innovative instructional approaches in the teaching of reading and writing, openness to interdisciplinary instruction, and a willingness to integrate technology into classroom lessons.
- Proficiency in a Learning Management System like Blackboard Learning Management System.
- Interest in the scholarship of teaching and learning.
- Bilingual skills a plus
Additional Information: Please note, faculty rank of Assistant Professor may be subject to change in accordance with Article XVII of the MCCC Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Salary: $52,970 is the starting salary for Column B under the MCCC 2022 Salary Grid for an Assistant Professor Rank with a Master's Degree, actually salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
