Lawrence Berkeley National Lab's ( LBNL ) Scientific Networking Division has an opening for a Senior Data Science Engineer to join the team.
In this exciting role, you will work in a collaborative, results-driven development environment to help guide the strategic growth decisions of the ESnet network and provide novel insight into what the network is doing. As a member of the ESnet's Planning and Architecture Group you will manage consultations and collaborations with ESnet users, peer ESnet organizations, and peer Research and Education (R&E) and Regional Optical Networks (RON), along with internal software development, network engineering and operations teams. You will lead the development of analytical methods to help drive strategic decisions underlying the current and next-generation ESnet network.
What You Will Do:
- Lead an interdisciplinary team in gathering requirements, designing, implementing, and testing software used to measure and analyze network services.
- Manage project teams to successfully develop and complete project scopes, on time and within project budgets.
- Manage large data sets as they apply to complex mathematical systems and apply knowledge of data fusion and both algorithm and script development.
- Establish scalable, automated processes for large scale data extraction, model development, model validation and model implementation.
- Develop ESnet data science strategy, to support data-driven decision making and promote external network visibility.
- Lead the exploration of different analytical models and methods to augment existing tools to better understand the behavior and health of the network.
- Drive the implementation of an ESnet data sharing policy.
- Engage with researchers to investigate and publish interesting findings (within the data sharing policy).
- Engage with the R&E networking community to prototype and deploy common analytic solutions.
What is Required:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of twelve years of data mining and modeling, including analysis of large data sets, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Ph.D is desired.
- Demonstrated experience in active/passive network measurement, network topology and modeling, cybersecurity vulnerability analysis.
- Experience managing research portfolios and research teams.
- Experience with applying machine learning techniques for networks.
- Demonstrated proficiency with IP network protocols.
- Proficiency with advanced technical writing and scientific journal research or publications.
- Demonstrated experience with the defense of scientific techniques and approaches to networking, data science, and related fields using peer review and rigorous scientific validation preferred.
- Experience in implementing science concepts in real world scenarios.
