We are accepting applications to fill one full-time Legal Support  Manager vacancy in  Santa Barbara for the District Attorney's Office. The job classification is Program/Business Leader – General in the Civil Service leadership series.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:  The mission of the Santa Barbara County District Attorney's Office is to pursue truth and justice by employing the highest ethical standards in vigorously prosecuting the guilty, protecting the innocent, and preventing crime. The District Attorney has offices in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Lompoc. The Office embodies a team approach to fighting crime, wherein Deputy District Attorneys, Investigators, Victim Witness staff, and support staff work closely together at all stages of a case. The Office is also dedicated to ongoing training and skill development, as well as fostering the development of new technologies to fight crime and achieve justice. Specialized prosecution units exist for areas of great concern to the County including gangs, vulnerable victims, and white-collar crime. In addition, specialty courts such as DUI Court, Drug Court, Mental Health Treatment Court, Restorative Justice Court, and Veterans' Treatment Court allow for collaboration between Deputy District Attorneys and other Court staff in an effort to improve the success rate of rehabilitation for criminal defendants in addition to reducing crime. THE POSITION:  The Santa Barbara County Office of the District Attorney is seeking a Legal Support Manager who brings a high level of professionalism, knowledge, enthusiasm, and energy to our team. The Legal Support Manager is a Program/Business Leader - General position within the civil service system. Located in Santa Barbara, this position holds a vital and diverse role within the District Attorney's Office.

 
The incumbent requires a deep understanding of the criminal justice system, criminal procedures and legal operations. They will lead others and model behaviors that exemplify exceptional service; provide effective and ethical leadership; creatively and strategically plan, develop, and implement programs that use Legal resources to achieve results; are accountable for strategy and goal formation consistent with the mission and key legal support objectives; engage stakeholders; communicate and collaborate effectively at multiple levels; develop employees; analyze issues and data; and efficiently use public resources.

 
The distinguishing responsibilities of this position include: oversight of legal office support and various projects to improve the administration of the office. This position collaborates and engages with key business partners including Public Defender, Local Law Enforcement, Sheriff, Superior Court, Probation, County Executive Office, Human Resources, and other public safety agencies.

The ideal candidate will possess the following: In order to be considered for this position, applicants must provide detailed information on their application to demonstrate how they meet the employment standards (e.g. number of employees supervised, transcripts, etc.) listed below:

Possession of the core competencies listed here  and the ability to immediately demonstrate these competencies consistently with the position’s level in the leadership series and the specific work assignment; AND

 
1. Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Paralegal Studies or related field; AND  four years of advanced-journey level experience   that i ncludes two y ears of experience supervising staff OR

2. Possession of an Associate's degree Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Paralegal Studies or related field; AND  six years of advanced-journey level experience that includes two years of experience supervising staff; OR

3. A combination of training, education, and experience that is equal to one of the qualifications listed above and that provides the required knowledge and abilities  
SELECTION PROCESS
  1. Review applications and supplemental questionnaires to determine applicants who meet the employment standards.
  2. Application and Supplemental Questionnaire Ranking . Applications that meet the employment standards will be evaluated and scored. Candidates' final score and rank on the eligibility list will be determined by the information provided on their application and supplemental questionnaire  based on the ideal candidate statement, position description, a nd supplemental questionnaire.  This process may be eliminated if there are fewer than 11 qualified candidates.

Candidates must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the application and supplemental questionnaire ranking assessment to be placed on an employment list. An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established, all candidates will receive written notice of their score on the exam(s), rank on the employment list, and exact duration of the employment list. The appointee must satisfactory complete a twelve (12) month probationary period.
