Job Summary:
Apply your advanced technical skills and knowledge to assess and resolve technical problems of space systems, guide program teams to successful and compliant milestone reviews and events, and bolster Millennium’s culture of technical excellence and mission assurance via mentoring, training, and knowledge capture. In this role specifically, you will run and enhance our parts, materials, and processes (PMP) controls for space vehicle systems, as well as help review the design and implementation of those systems. A successful candidate possesses a strong academic foundation and experience in materials science, metallurgy, and/or chemical engineering applied to electronic parts and spacecraft systems and engineering. Additionally, a successful candidate shows developed skills in problem solving, critical technical assessment, leadership, and communication.

Job Responsibilities:
- Review supplier and internal engineering designs, manufacturing and test documentation and processes with a focus on material safety and reliability
- Work with program managers, design engineers, procurement, and supplier personnel to identify appropriate, reliable parts for use in mission designs
- Judiciously apply an in-depth understanding of Electrical, Electronic, and Electromechanical (EEE) component technical standards in the selection and evaluation of EEE parts for use in space-qualified hardware, based on the acceptable level of risk for a mission
- Identify technical risks and issues with products and spacecraft designs, recommend corrective actions and risk mitigations, and handle all associated internal and external technical communications with the correct parties
- Support technical activities including Failure Review Board (FRB), Corrective Action Board (CAB), and Parts, Materials, and Process Control Board (PMPCB)
- Support analysis and testing of material and component qualification for the space environment, contributing to and maintaining our knowledge database on these topics
- Provide expertise on destructive and non-destructive test methodologies and interpretation of test results
- Evaluate defective components and failure analysis reports to support electrical, reliability, mechanical, and quality engineers in support of risk mitigation and material review activities
- Understand, interpret, and apply industry, government, and internal parts and materials specifications in the context of risks posed to space missions
- Identify technical risks and issues with products and spacecraft designs, recommend corrective actions and risk mitigations, and handle all associated internal and external technical communications with the correct parties
- Provide independent support to our missions with an understanding of mission requirements, context, and design philosophies across all space vehicle systems to ensure mission success
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Materials, or Chemical Engineering or equivalent educational experience, completed prior to application (current undergraduate students will not be considered for this position, but are encouraged to apply for other positions at Millennium)
- 2-5 years of experience in a relevant aerospace environment
- Understanding of engineering principles and approach to requirements and risks
- Familiarity with standard engineering practices and industry standards and specifications
- Strong technical problem-solving skills and effective application of engineering judgement
- Exceptional skill in time management and prioritization
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Ability to navigate with ease various engineering tools, applications, and principles such as computerized control systems and test equipment
- Ability to make judgement calls to the benefit of the project
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in engineering, physics, or other relevant field is desired
- Understand and utilize theories, principles, and practices of engineering and project management methods
- Familiarity with IPC and JEDEC standards for electronic parts
- Familiarity with GEIA standards and their relevance to the space environment
- This position requires an active TS/SCI (U.S. Citizenship required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active. Please note that the salary information shown below is a general guideline only of what is reasonably expected to be paid for the position. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary Pay-Range:
- Level 3: $104,550 - $153,750
- Level 4: $128,350 - $188,750
