Who We Are
MI Poder is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit, non-partisan social welfare and civic engagement organization serving the Latinx population in Michigan. Our purpose is to strengthen the Michigan Latinx voice and leadership capacity to mobilize our constituents and increase participation in the democratic process. We develop and advocate for legislation, regulations, and government programs to improve the Michigan Latinx community's opportunities, growth, and investment.
What We Need
MI Poder is currently seeking a Field Director. This position plays a major role in the success of MI Poder's political ambitions of engaging and mobilizing Michigan Latinx voters. The Field Director will shape the strategy to increase Latinx voter turnout and define accountability goals of voter engagement each election cycle. This position will collaborate closely with departmental leaders to design effective and engaging campaigns educating and empowering Michigan Latinx voters.
This position requires occasional travel to all MI Poder service areas during election seasons and is otherwise fully remote within the state of Michigan.
Responsibilities of the Field Director include:
- Design and implement statewide field programs to build and maintain voter bases, carry out voter engagement, increase Latinx voter turnout, and support strategic targeting through education of priority issues for Latinx voters.
- Sit on the MI Poder Leadership Team and serve as a thought partner to the Executive Director giving input on strategic decisions and collaboration as needed.
- Oversee MI Poder's field organizing efforts. Hire, supervise, and provide guidance to a team of Regional Organizers building trust, cohesion, and alignment in all departmental efforts. Design volunteer engagement strategy for Regional Organizers to implement in their assigned areas.
- Develop and deliver field training in alignment with established program goals including leadership development, capacity building, and data training to MI Poder staff, volunteers, and anchor community leaders.
- Build and maintain relationships with local community anchor organizations in support of building their electoral capacity.

- A deep interest in strengthening the Michigan Latinx voice to build community power and greater social and civic opportunities.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated cultural competency of the Michigan Latinx community.
- Two cycles of political/campaign field work (such as voter persuasion, early-voting, and get-out-the-vote campaigns) or comparable political or advocacy experience required. Preference for at least one cycle inclusive of managing paid staff.
- Demonstrated experience and track record of conceiving strategy and overseeing implementation for a program or project taking a concept from idea to execution with success. Preference for strategic experience to be within electoral or advocacy work.
- Proficiency using VAN/MiniVan and other voter engagement software programs.
- Ability to lead, inspire, and maintain cooperative working relationships and accountability with a diverse group of stakeholders, staff, and volunteers.
- Organizational aptitude, demonstrated in the building and maintaining of systems and processes for ongoing projects and deadlines.
- Ability to make decisions assertively and confidently, specifically the ability to lead an initiative by corralling intersectional thoughts from partners and stakeholders and making the right decision for the organization.
- Excellent critical and strategic thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills, specifically the ability to understand the needs of your audience and adapt your communication style accordingly.
- Bilingual ability in English and Spanish required to effectively communicate with our communities and Spanish-speaking volunteers.
- Ability to travel, with the potential of overnight stays, to all MI Poder service areas: Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Grand Rapids, Holland, Pontiac, Flint, Detroit, and Ann Arbor.
