The Reitz Home Museum, located in Evansville Indiana, was incorporated in 1974 by the State of Indiana to equip, maintain and support the Reitz Home as a historical museum for the civic, cultural and educational benefit to the community.  The Victorian House Museum offers one of the country’s finest examples of French Second Empire architecture.  Built in 1871, the Reitz Home holds authentic period furniture, much of it original to the Reitz family.  The historic home has original period furnishing and architectural features.

Job Title: Executive Director

Reporting to the Executive Committee and focused on the preservation and restoration of the Reitz Home Museum, the Executive Director strives to market and communicate to the members and the community, the goals and future events and programs of the organization.

Essential Duties Include, But Not Limited To;

·         Responsible for the financial management of the corporation, including development and implementation of the annual budget.

·         Write grant proposals for preservation, restoration and educational programs and other additional funding opportunities.

·         Fundraising; Cultivation of Donors

·         Volunteer Recruitment and Management

·         Maintain the property to preserve the integrity and historical value of the museum home

oversight of daily tours; by staff and management.

·         Develop, implement and monitor, short and long term strategic planning processes in conjunction with the Board of Directors.

·         Report to the Board of Directors at monthly meetings.

·         Articulate to members and the community the goals, programs and future events through marketing, advertising and social media.

·         Provide senior management of the day-to-day operations including supervising staff and creating a teamwork and cooperation atmosphere.

·         Provide continuing training and work performance evaluations for staff.

Preferred Qualifications 

·         Graduate degree in art history, public history, museum studies or similar

·         Experience of successful grant writing

·         Successful Fundraising history and cultivation of donors

·         Ability to successfully recruit and manage volunteers

·         Five years of management of historic properties or museums

·         High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude

·         Attention To Detail

·         Team Player

·         Strong Communication Skills, Both Verbal & Written

·         Strategic Thinker

·         Demonstrated Ability to Prospect, Cultivate & Manage Donors

·         Strong Partnership Building and Event Planning Skills

·         Thorough Understanding of All Components of a Diversified Funding Base

·         Excellent Computer Skills and Knowledge of Database Programs
