As a Radiation Physicist, you will be responsible for internal contacts, conducting investigations and fact finding.
The Inova Department of Advanced Radiation Oncology and Proton therapy is seeking a Radian Physicist in Fairfax, Virginia. Both junior and senior candidates are welcome to apply. The full-time Radiation Physicist will provide all staff clinical duties as required mainly for Inova Fairfax Hospital but will have opportunities to work at other Inova locations depends on the need. The Radiation Physicist will report to the System Director of Medical Physics for Inova and work under the direction of physicians from Radiation Oncology Associates group. The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of twenty physicists, provide clinical physics services and promote department research/education outputs. The ideal candidate will be energetic and well-trained, possess excellent communication and collaboration skills, and have interest in potential career advancement within the Inova Health system.
Inova Department of Advanced Radiation Oncology and Proton therapy is an international center for advanced cancer care and research, serving Northern Virginia, the Washington, DC metro area, and the world beyond. With locations across the northern Virginia, the Center can treat patient at Alexandria, Fair Oaks, Fairfax, Loudoun and Woodbridge where it’s most convenient for the patients. Across the system, equipment includes IBA Proteus Plus Proton (2 treatment gantries), 5 TrueBeams with HyperArc, 4 Trilogy, 1 M6 CyberKnife, 3 HDR units, 2 IORT units, 1 3T MRI and 6 simulation CTs, including 1 dual-energy 256 channel CT. External planning are done with Eclipse and RayStation while using Aria for patient data management.

Responsibilities
- Provides support to the dosimetry team in patient’s planning
- Provides support to the radiation therapy team in patient’s treatment
- Works closely with radiation oncologists in every aspect of patient’s radiation therapy
- Develops, and performs routine quality assurance of patient’s plan and the system
- Validates new devices, equipment or tools in patient’s treatment
- Designs, and performs research projects and promotes research outputs
- Provides educational activities to medical students and proton physics/physician fellows
Qualifications
- A master’s degree in Physics or a related field is required, a doctoral degree in Physics or a related field is preferred
- Minimum 3 years experience in Clinical Medical Physics
- The American Board of Radiology (ABR) certified required
- Virginia Inspector within the first two months of hire, but must have submitted the application to the State at time of hire
- Availability to work outside of normal business hours (nights and weekends) is required
- Knowledge of scripting is preferred
- Experience with Raystation treatment planning system is preferred
- Prior experience with proton therapy is preferred
- Strong communication skills – both orally and in writing are required
