This position is funded by State Compensatory Education funds. Utilizing leadership, advocacy and collaboration the At Risk Counselor delivers academic intervention beyond the General Education classroom interventions to At-Risk students in both Synchronous and Asynchronous environments to reduce the disparity in academic performance on State assessment instrument administered under Subchapter B, Chapter 39 TEC in Math and Reading and to reduce the disparity in the rates of high school completion between students at risk of dropping out of school and all other LEA students. Promotes student success by providing preventive services and responding to identified needs through implementation of a comprehensive school counseling program that helps guide all learners in their academic success, personal and social development, and career and college planning and readiness.
This position offers a base salary of $51,040 plus the eligibility of a performance bonus. This position is for an Immediate Start within School Year 23/24. Essential Functions : Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.
- Serves as an At-Risk Counselor for at risk students.
- Develops and maintains effective individual and group counseling relationships with students and parents.
- Coordinates with local support agencies and makes referrals as needed.
- Monitors progress of at-risk populations for the purpose of determining appropriate interventions and support.
- Identifies, analyzes and applies research findings to facilitate improvement of at-risk students.
- Participates in campus and district-wide activities that contribute to the academic, personal and social development of students.
- Facilitates collaboration and communication with campus school counselors, administrators, diagnosticians and others as needed to ensure success of students in the at-risk population including but not limited to barriers to graduation, career planning, etc.
- Completes monthly reports and documents all correspondence with students, parents, teachers, counselors and administrators.
- Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.
- Delivers individual and group guidance curriculum supporting student development;
- Analyzes student data and develops data-driven programs for intervention action plans;
- Provides responsive services to individuals or groups on academic and personal issues;
- Provides a support system that strengthens the efforts of teachers, staff, and parents;
- Perform all other duties as assigned. Duties this position may not perform:
- Duties related to testing, such as test administration
- Legislatively mandated duties or activities that are specifically allocated to a regular education position in the Texas Education Code, such as creating student course schedules
- Activities or duties that would supplement anything other than the regular education program, such as parent/family liaison
Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Masters degree AND
- Three (3) years of experience in counseling and/or advisement OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
Certificates and Licenses: Counselor
Residency Requirements: This position is remote and strongly prefer residents of
Texas . May consider residents of surrounding states (NM, OK, AR or LA). This position could include travel up to 20% of the time for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and/or as required by the school.
OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Knowledge of individual and group counseling strategies
- Knowledge of prevention and intervention strategies, including behavior management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Web-based search engines, and database systems
- Flexible schedule; Ability to travel as needed
- Ability to clear required background check
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience with distance learning
- Advanced coursework in counseling and administration
- Experience as an online teacher
- Experience in a customer service environment.
- Experience with Local, State, and Federals laws and mandated reporting
- Experience in a charter school environment preferred
- Experience with state career planning systems, Pathfinder, or other career planning platforms/tools
