GENERAL SUMMARY

Provide technical support for the designated organization based on assigned projects. Assigned projects will be in the area of technical practices in support of the department. This position will be directly accountable to assigned department staff and will support assigned project related activities and initiatives.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Support assigned routine department activities

Support technical project-related activities within the department

Support emergent related work or assignments

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Requires current part to full time enrollment status, or a recent graduate, in a bachelor’s or higher degree program at an accredited college or university. Area of study must be in a technical field related to the assigned role. Target hire is a student at a Junior or Senior status at the time the internship commences. Students earlier in their college experience will be considered, along with recent graduates (within six months of graduation). Must maintain a minimum 2.8 cumulative G.P.A. unless approved by Human Resources. A High School diploma/GED is required.

This is a temporary position for a summer internship 3-4 months in duration. This is an onsite position (not remote). There is a possibility of extending this internship through the school year on a part-time basis for up to one year if the student lives within reasonable commuting distance. This position is targeted to an upper level (junior/senior) student in pre-law, engineering, business or other technical discipline.

The position will work within the Regulatory Affairs Department with the majority of assigned responsibilities being with the Licensing Group. Regulatory Affairs aids in the operation of Columbia Generating Station (CGS) through maintaining the plant licensing basis and ensuring compliance with federal requirements for nuclear utilities principally derived from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Department staff interpret federal regulations and maintain awareness of industry guidance, operating experience, and precedent. The department maintains processes and procedures that are used by all station personnel to operate CGS in accordance with its operating license. Department staff work closely with technical experts across the plant in various disciplines including Engineering and Operations. Attention to detail, strong research skills, oral/written communication skills and organizational skills are essential to success in this position.

Pay Range :

$23.50 Minimum

$25.50 Maximum

Temporary employees may be required to participate in the Washington State Pension Plan (PERS) and may also be eligible to enroll in medical insurance if the duration and hours worked requirements are met. Temporary employees accrue paid time off that is available to use after 90 days of employment.
