1. Clinical Practice Knowledge

a. Supports the provision of age appropriate care to patients and families.

b. Demonstrates awareness of research findings applicable to area of practice; critically analyzes studies to justify and/or modify standards for professional practice.

c. Models high standard of nursing practice and professional accountability.

d. Understands and integrates Information Technology in patient care and delivery systems.

2. Financial Management

. Creates and effectively manages human and material resources within budgetary limits.

a. Conducts ongoing evaluation of productivity and adjusts as necessary.

b. Maximizes care efficiency and throughput.

c. Anticipates the effects of change on reimbursement programs for patient care.

d. Implements/manages change based on a working knowledge of the relationship between value-based purchasing, quality outcomes and revenue/reimbursement.

3. Human Resource Management

. Supervises staff, assuring performance is in accordance with departmental/organizational policies and regulatory compliance.

a. Initiates and/or makes recommendations, in collaboration with department director, for personnel action (hiring, transferring, advancement, corrective action).

b. In collaboration with Clinical Educator, develops, oversees and evaluates effectiveness of orientation, ongoing competency and learning needs of staff.

c. Oversees staffing/scheduling, providing for unit needs necessary to support delivery of quality patient care.

d. Promotes staff engagement through the implementation of healthy work environment standards.

e. Supports the Shared Governance structure by encouraging staff participation at UBC and governance councils.

4. Performance Improvement

. Identifies key performance indicators and engages in activities which promote improvements in systems/processes (patient satisfaction, core measures, NSIs).

a. Conducts customer service visits with patients/families identifying opportunities for improvement

b. Demonstrates and empowers staff to perform effective service recovery.

c. Proactively identifies and champions patient safety initiatives for area(s) of responsibility. Maintains survey and regulatory readiness.

d. Monitors and promotes workplace safety requirements.

e. Serves as change agent and project manager for hospital and unit initiatives.

f. Establishes unit goals aligned with organization and nursing strategic plans.

5. Personal and Professional Accountability

. Maintains competency in technology required for position (review of quality/risk data, trend analysis, forecasting).

a. Participates in ongoing educational activities related to practice area and professional issues.

b. Seeks opportunities to mentor, coach and promote the professional development of staff.

c. Influences others through leadership behaviors consistent with unit/nursing/hospital vision and mission.

d. Participates in relevant professional organizations/associations.

Qualifications

Experience Minimum Required

• At least 5-7 years Nursing experience

*Demonstrated clinical competence in the area of Oncology/Hematology

Experience Preferred/Desired

• 5 years RN experience in acute care setting; previous clinical coordinator role or equivalent.
