Department Background

The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University's second largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education, and outreach. The questions we probe and the answers we seek focus on three overlapping concerns: natural and human systems; food, energy, and environmental resources; and social, physical, and economic well-being.

The Department of Animal Science's mission is to discover and disseminate new knowledge about the biology and management of domestic animals and to apply this knowledge to benefit society. Our department is devoted to undergraduate and graduate teaching, research, extension and outreach.

Our department has many research facilities that require management from a skilled professional with a strong background in Animal Science and the management of domestic animals. Work under the direction of the Animal Science Department Chair and faculty to manage all aspects of operations for the Ithaca Farm Facilities in support of the department's graduate student research projects and undergraduate course requirements, while managing the day to day activities associated with the Large Animal Teaching and Research Unit (LARTU), Teaching Barn, Equine Metabolism Barn, Poultry Farm, Morrison Hall Abattoir, and the Livestock Pavilion. Coordinate and monitor research and class activities held in these facilities, set up laboratory exercises, assist with the animal breeding program and natural and artificial breeding including birthing of animals, and maintain records associated with the care of animals. Serve as sole instructor for ANSC 2100 Practical Large Animal Handling. Plan, setup, and oversee daily activities and assignments of students.
