Responsibilities and Duties
The Community Engagement Specialist will:
- Strategize and implement project-specific public involvement strategies to increase public participation and create awareness
- Develop key communication messages to convey complex topics clearly and concisely
- Develop content and create—or work with graphic designer to produce—public information materials, designed for print, digital, or a combination of both
- Coordinate and facilitate formal and informal public meetings, hearings, open houses, focus groups, workshops, advisory committees, and other stakeholder meetings
- Develop and implement multi-media communications campaigns in support of client projects, programs, and initiatives
- Support our clients in establishing and developing collaborative partnerships with diverse cross-sector of their communities
- Coordinate and support client with media relations, including but not limited public notices, media releases, project spokesperson
- Provide technical assistance to internal staff and clients regarding community engagement planning and implementation, best practices, and other strategies to support positive community relationships and promote inclusion
Qualifications and Skills Preferred
- Bachelor’s Degree in communications, public relations, marketing, public administration, community affairs, or related field OR five (5) years of related work experience.
- Ability to travel throughout Nebraska and Kansas
- Completed training, or willingness to complete training, from the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) or being a Certified Public Participation Professional
- Excellent communication, presentation, and public speaking skills
- Experience in social media platforms, website platforms, and virtual engagement tools
- Experience in facilitation, media relations, and working with government sector
- Familiarity with infrastructure and engineering-related projects
- Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience
