Job description

The Program in the Communication of Science and Technology at Vanderbilt University invites applications for the position of Mellon Assistant Professor of the Public Communication of Science beginning in the fall 2024 semester. This is a non-tenure-track position with a 3-year appointment and a 2-2 courseload. We are seeking a scholar working on the public communication of science with expertise in such areas as the rhetoric of science, humanistic analysis of science and technology, public arguments around science policy, the influence of technology in public culture, the relationship between science and humanity, and more.

The successful candidate will have a strong research agenda in the public communication of science and be able to teach advanced courses on science communication and applied communication skills for STEM students. Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Communication, or related/adjacent discipline required. In addition, in accordance with Mellon Foundation guidelines, applicants must have received the Ph.D. no more than four years prior to the start of the position, August 16, 2024.
