Job description

The Biologics CMC Development team at AbbVie in the Bay Area has a long and rich history of biologics development. Now located in a new state of the art facility in South San Francisco, the team leverages its comprehensive end-to-end CMC capabilities to work collaboratively through all phases of CMC development with a primary focus on advancing complex biologic therapies, such as bi-specifics and novel modalities, to human clinical studies and eventual licensure.

We have an exciting opportunity available for a Scientist I to join the CMC Biologics Analytical Research and Development group at AbbVie, located in South San Francisco, CA. In this lab-based role, you will utilize your knowledge of protein analytical chemistry and expertise in a variety of electrophoretic and high-performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) methods to enable CMC development of AbbVie’s growing pipeline of clinical stage complex biotherapeutics, which include novel bispecific constructs, antibody-drug conjugates, and monoclonal antibodies. You will be responsible for supporting the development, qualification, transfer, and validation of analytical methods for the analysis and characterization of clinical stage complex biotherapeutics.

RESPONSIBILITES

· Develop electrophoretic and chromatographic methods to support development of therapeutic antibodies, antibody variants, and antibody drug conjugates (ADCs).

· Perform capillary electrophoresis (CE) and HPLC testing to quantify product quality attributes and characterize biotherapeutic proteins.

· Develop innovative approaches to solve difficult analytical challenges.

· Develop, validate, and transfer fit-for-purpose QC release and stability methods.

· Provide technical support for QC testing occurring at internal and external GMP laboratories.

· Author technical documents (e.g. methods, protocols, reports), scientific publications, presentations, and regulatory documents.

· Present work and results in team and group meetings.

QUALIFICATIONS

· BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related field with 5+ years of experience in the biopharmaceutical industry or MS with 2+ years experience.

· Must possess a solid understanding of protein chemistry and biochemistry, particularly as it relates to biotherapeutic protein drug development.

· Demonstrated proficiency in developing and performing protein capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS), HPLC (e.g., SEC, IEX, HIC), and other separation methods as applied to protein analysis.

· Capillary electrophoresis and HPLC method development, qualification, and validation expertise is desirable.

· Experience with CMC analytical development of monoclonal antibodies or related biotherapeutic proteins.

· Proven record of technical/scientific achievement and innovation.

· Ability to learn new techniques, create and maintain accurate and complete records, adhere to laboratory SOPs, and exhibit attention to detail.  

· Must have strong scientific writing and verbal communication skills.

· Must be capable of working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and managing multiple concurrent assignments with a high degree of independence.

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
