The Role
Under general direction, the Registered Nurse (RN) serves as a member of a multidisciplinary team performing a variety of nursing and client care activities designed to ensure that clients receive all necessary care in accordance with the nursing care plan, established in accordance with the agency policies and procedures, and standards of Nursing Practice.
Additionally, the RN is responsible for conducting health assessments and evaluating Guests. This work is carried out in support of the mission and goals of Samaritan Daytop Village.
What You Will Do
- Provides direct nursing care to clients, including comprehensive admission assessments (COWS, CIWA), evaluates Guests to determine suitability for program’s admission, assesses withdrawal symptoms, and manages medication regimens with the administration of injections when necessary, transcribes orders, and collection of specimens for laboratory analysis or culture.
- Performs and documents Nursing Intake/Medical History following agency policy and procedure.
- Provides wellness education to Guests, monitors behavior, and participates in treatment planning.
- Administers medication to Guests who are receiving MAT plus drug screenings and COVID-19 testing.
- Coordinates response to medical and psychiatric emergencies.
- Follows protocols for administering, documenting, and being responsible for end-of-shift counts for Narcotics and other controlled substances as established by OASAS and in accordance with agency policies.
- Facilitates referrals to community-based psychiatric and primary care providers.
- Interface and collaborate with local pharmacies on guests’ medication(s).
- Completes follow-up assessments of clients who are treated for chronic and/or acute illnesses to monitor the effectiveness of prescribed treatments.
- Monitors lab values to identify abnormalities and reports such to the attending physician or physician’s assistant.
Who You Will Be
- Someone witha an Associate’s Degree in Nursing.
- NYS RN licensure.
- BLS certification.
- Minimum of One-Three (1-3) years of demonstrated experience as an RN preferably working with clients with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and/or Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
- Available to work a flexible schedule as needed in response to participant and staff needs.
- Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and EMR.
