Position Summary

The College of Engineering is currently seeking a skilled software engineer. The selected individual will play a key role in crafting algorithms and software for an autonomous racing car, as well as spearheading the creation and implementation of new capabilities while overseeing system integration.

The software engineer will be in charge of supervising and administering the software for an autonomous vehicle. This entails collaborating with researchers to create, implement, and integrate new functionalities, along with conducting system testing and optimization.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The role provides a hybrid work arrangement, incorporating both in-person and remote work, with a mandatory commitment of 40 hours per week. During race preparations and travel, work hours must align with those of colleagues. This role involves traveling to project sites before races for system testing, providing flexibility for both in-person and remote work.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Computer Engineering or Computer Science; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience with various operating systems and the designing, scheduling, implementing, debugging and testing of complex computer systems and knowledge of national and international standards; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science or Robotics or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience work in software development for robotic control and sensor processing, software integration, and project management.

Possesses expertise in C++ and Python, with a strong command of deep learning software such as PyTorch and TensorFlow. Demonstrates experience in Robot Operating System (ROS) for robot or vehicle control. Proficient in Linux-based operating systems like Ubuntu, and familiar with common tools like bash, GIT, etc.
