Job Summary
Performs highly skilled work with limited supervision for general, medical, and scientific photography in support of our Plastic Surgery Department where sensitive body parts will be the subject.
Experience and Education
High School graduation and four (4) years photography experience.
Job Duties
- Photographs sensitive and confidential medical/surgical subjects using specific technical knowledge.
- Skilled in advanced digital imaging techniques with imaging software and a thorough understanding of the institution’s ethical and legal guidelines concerning medical and research photography.
- Works relatively independently and effectively operates digital single lens reflex (DSLR) and video cameras, printers, studio and off-camera flashes, exposure meters, and other related apparatus.
- Selects the proper camera settings for moderately complex medical/scientific photography and other assignments to independently complete work assigned.
- Responsible for photographic manipulations, methods, and techniques used in the production of photographic materials and processing of digital media and photographic prints.
- Demonstrates considerable knowledge and skill in file correction and color management.
- Takes photographs of individuals, groups, events, objects, and other subjects.
- Maintains catalog of digital assets, assigns appropriate metadata and keywords.
- Maintains photographic and studio equipment and accessories.
- Prepares digital media for publication, including press printing and web use.
- Mounts or mats photographs.
- Assists Photographer or Photography Supervisor on multiple camera assignments, on and off campus, as needed.
- Assists in inventorying photographic and related equipment.
- Provides quality control of all completed work to assure high quality and to ensure that institutional standards are met.
- Duties performed may include one or more of the following core functions: a) Directly interacting with or caring for patients; b) Directly interacting with or caring for human-subjects research participants; c) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting patient records (including patient financial records); or d) Regularly maintaining, modifying, releasing or similarly affecting human-subjects research records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Work requires proficiency in the use of digital single lens reflex (DSLR) and video cameras, printers, studio and off-camera flashes.
- Work requires proficiency in the use of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Bridge) and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) applications.
- Work requires good knowledge of lenses and their application to variety of problems.
- Work requires exacting accuracy in all phases of work performed.
- Work requires exercise of limited judgment in application of practices and procedures to work problems.
- Work requires making decisions that normally relate to internal situations where the work is largely routine and involves minor problems.
- Work requires contact with others outside work-unit in advising photographic techniques to be employed and in preparing for and executing work assignments.
- Work requires ability to perform under general supervision of medical photographer of higher grade.
- Work requires ability to follow established practices and procedures in the performance of majority of assigned duties.
