Overview
As Rhode Island Energy's Manager of Fleet Operations you will be responsible for developing and executing Rhode Island Energy’s (RIE) fleet strategy and overseeing and ensuring the timely and effective maintenance of RIE’s fleet so vehicles are available as required by RIE operations departments.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute RIE’s vehicle replacement strategy to meet the company’s long term electrification goals.
Direct the efforts and resources of the fleet maintenance team to ensure safety, reliability and security of RIE’s fleet consistent with company goals, objectives and policies in full compliance industry regulations.
Continually assure all fleet maintenance activities always protect company worker and public safety from risk or harm.
Analyze maintenance plans and other cost drivers against industry benchmarks, to ensure optimal vehicle utilization plan.
Challenge existing ways of working and continuously seek ways to improve productivity, cost and fleet conditions.
Develop and maintain effective relationships with internal colleagues and clients to anticipate and provide for fleet related business needs.
Develop fleet maintenance activities to achieve optimal fleet life and performance .
Create and monitor local metrics.
Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, corporate and governmental fleet related regulations.
Keep abreast of industry changes, regulatory changes and environmental changes at the local, state, and federal level as it relates to vehicles and equipment repair and related workshop environment.
Develop and lead emergency response fleet activities to support Ops.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline plus a minimum of 5 years of transportation or heavy equipment experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience on a year-for-year basis, is required.
Proven experience in developing and executing fleet purchasing or maintenance strategies.
Demonstrated ability to manage a union workforce.
Experience leading teams while building key relationships across multiple levels of the organization and with multiple disciplines (internal customers, labor relations, multiple union leadership members).

Remote Work
The company reserves the right to determine if this position will be assigned to work on-site, remotely, or a combination of both. Assigned work location may change.
