MARKETING & COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR
DESCRIPTION OF THE ORGANIZATION:
Distinguished Young Women is a national nonprofit corporation that is headquartered in the historic district of Mobile, Alabama. It was founded in 1958 in Mobile, and each June 50 state representatives travel to Mobile to participate in the National Finals. Distinguished Young Women’s mission is to empower high school girls to develop their full, individual potential through a fun, transformative experience that culminates in a celebratory showcase of their accomplishments. The program provides college scholarships and opportunities for personal growth and community service. More than 10,000 volunteers across the nation operate local and state Distinguished Young Women programs. More than 780,000 young women across the country have participated in Distinguished Young Women and more than $120 million in cash scholarships have been awarded at the county, state, and national levels. The program also makes available over $1 billion in college granted scholarships annually.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, public relations
- Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite programs including InDesign
- Experience in marketing and communications field preferred
- Experience working with local and national media preferred
- Knowledge of social media platforms and strategies
- Have exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Role & Responsibilities
Marketing strategies to include:
- The creative messaging and implementation of yearly fund-raising campaigns, presentations, press releases, content, and posts
- Yearly marketing calendar
- Expand the reach and frequency of media coverage
- Day-to-day implementation of full-scale social media plan to include Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, You Tube, Tik-Tok and others as appropriate
- Development and implementation of email communications to sponsors, donors, alumnae and others as needed
- Accurately manage the alumnae, sponsor, and donors’ data base - develop and execute targeted messaging depending on the audience
- Set and measure specific targets/goals for all marketing/communication activities
Communication strategies to include:
- Development and implementation of a media strategy and objectives to include reach and coverage, in addition:
- Website Ad Sales
- Key messages/talking points for board members, state and local chairpersons, participants, and the Distinguished Young Woman of America
- Support and manage the Be Distinguished Vlog
- Oversee and produce content for all communications, including a monthly e-newsletter to all constituents and alumnae and other communications as needed
- Oversee all appearances by the Distinguished Young Woman of America
- Manage all creative service projects (event invitations, event programs, promotional pieces, press kits, national final program book and others as needed)
- Oversee all photography for the organization including cataloging, sorting, and archiving
- Develop and influence opportunities for interviews, partnerships, and sponsorships
Other key responsibilities:
- Identify and recruit potential sponsors including in-kind sponsorships of products/services
- Manage public relations programs and contractors within set budgets
- Recruit and manage marketing/communication interns
- Coordinate the Be Your Best Self Program and Girls Scout’s patch
- Assist with annual Spotlight event
- Be a resource for state and local programs in all aspects of marketing
- Serve as staff liaison in all matters relating to website and electronic communications
- Perform other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director
- Always maintain a positive can-do attitude
- Be curious – ask questions with the intent to advance the program and make a positive impact
Compensation:
- Salary is commensurate with experience

- Must live in Mobile, AL area and work from the national office
