Job Description and Duties

The Budget Management Branch provides budgetary and fiscal support for the CDCR’s multi-billion dollar budget.  The Branch is responsible for developing the Department’s budget. This is accomplished through several processes including: Budget Change Proposals, Population Adjustments, the legislative approval process and legislative changes, and various other adjustments.  The Branch is tasked with determining and distributing funding levels to the various organizations and institutions via the allotment process.

Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager III, the Staff Services Manager II plans, develops, coordinates and supervises Departmental budget support activities. The SSM II also coordinates the accurate and timely completion of at least one major budget process annually: Budget Change Proposals, Fall Population, Finance Letters, May Revision, or Schedule 7A. This position ensures accurate and timely submission of responses to the Department of Finance (DOF), the Legislative Analyst’s Office (LAO), and Legislative staff.

This position is eligible for hybrid telework (Remote-Centric or Office-Centric). To qualify for telecommuting, the ideal candidate should reside within a 2-hour radius of our Sacramento, CA office.

If it is determined a candidate does not meet the Minimum Qualifications, the candidate will be withheld from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible to be hired for the position. Candidates who have been withheld may file an appeal with the State Personnel Board.

Candidates new to CDCR or the Division of Juvenile Justice are required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting, and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment followed by departmental annual Tuberculosis testing/evaluation thereafter.
