Position Summary:
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Associate Director for the Eagleton Institute of Politics. Reporting to the director of the Eagleton Institute of Politics, the Associate Director provides leadership, direction, strategic vision and program development to effectively meet the mission and core values of the Eagleton Institute of Politics. As such, the Associate Director works with the Director to construct, support, and implement the strategic plans and operations for the Institute as a whole, solve complex organizational problems as well as recommend relevant policies and procedures.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Institute's operations to ensure that the Institute and its teams run smoothly and effectively.
- Supports the Director in ensuring that staff is organized and operates effectively to implement the Institute's mission and programming, including directly supervising staff.
- Contributes to the development and implementation of the strategic direction for the Institute, including strategies to build Eagleton's programs and research areas.
- Oversees development of communications and public relations strategies for the Institute and directs implementation of strategies across multiple platforms including, but not limited to, external media, websites, social media, newsletters, annual reports, and marketing materials – in compliance with university standards.
- Plays a key role in fundraising, including grant writing.
- Provides confidential advice to leadership and manages confidential projects and communications on behalf of the Director and the Institute, involving both internal and external audiences.
- Travels to represent the Institute at national, state, and local programs and serves as a surrogate for the Director at events.
- Requires extensive knowledge of the substance of American politics.
- The Eagleton Institute is a collaborative team. On occasion, all members are asked to participate in Institute-wide and/or cross-team projects.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- Requires a master's degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- Also requires three years of relevant experience.

Equipment Utilized:
- Must be proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher), social media, web design and desktop publishing, learning management systems, and Zoom (or equivalent) platforms.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Must be available to work evenings occasionally during the academic year and some weekends.
- Eagleton offices are located within a historic building with no elevator. The duties of this position regularly involve navigating stairs numerous times a day.
