Job description

JOB SUMMARY

The Automation Technician is responsible for and assists in the implementation of projects within the normal plant operations as well as troubleshooting and support of existing equipment, monitoring, and control systems and processes. Many projects involve PLC, operator interface, Fanuc Robot programming, data collection, and safety-related control systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Support daily robot programming, troubleshooting, and file backups of updated processes. This often requires a hands-on approach and involvement of production and maintenance personnel to arrive at the best solution.

· Troubleshoots and repairs high speed, automated, manufacturing equipment utilizing LOTO and hands-on diagnostic abilities. The troubleshooting includes climbing onto, into, and around equipment to quickly locate problem areas and determine root causes of problems.

· Provides accurate and immediate hands-on troubleshooting and repair for manufacturing equipment.

· PLC troubleshooting and fault logic programming, especially to support work involving monitoring and control software in the production areas.

· Demonstrates the ability to train others effectively. Develops specifications, checklists, and standard work processes.

· Confers with peers and other personnel to implement standard operating procedures, resolve system malfunctions, and provide technical information.

· Develop and maintain the operator and management graphic displays for production information, faults, and related data.

· Help maintain proper documentation for PLC logic, Electrical and Control procedures and standards, operator interfaces, electrical drawings and monitoring, and control hardware and software.

· Assist in Project management for implementation of Capital, process improvement, and equipment upgrades. This includes development concepts, proposals, timelines, budgets, and support documentation to secure project approval.

· Work closely and coordinate with engineering, production, scheduling and purchasing all project-related support responsibilities and activities.

· Attend technical seminars and training to learn and apply applicable innovative products and processes.

· Promote good housekeeping and ensure a safe working environment with proper use of guarding, PPE, etc.

· Maintains a fully documented and accurate electrical design and control program that complies with established company and industry standards.

· Works with Engineering on implementing automated solutions focused on process control, labor reduction, and quality compliance.

· Assists in writing and teaching process procedures to ensure corrective and preventative actions are taking place.

· Supports the creation of documentation covering safety and operating procedures on automation systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Associate degree from a technical college and 2 years of work experience or equivalent of 4 or more years of work experience in an engineering environment with demonstrated results.

· Robot experience is required. Fanuc a plus.

· PLC experience is required. HMI experience a plus.

· Electrical troubleshooting experience is required.

· Experience with vision systems preferred. Knowledge of LabView is a plus.

· Capable of hands-on electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair for manufacturing equipment. Requirements include LOTO, hands-on diagnostic ability (setpoint determination/adjustment), appropriate use of hand tools and test equipment.

· Good written and oral communication skills.

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Ability to work quickly and accurately under stress when equipment is down.

· Possess exceptional attention to detail.
