Job description
Overview:
As a Program Coordinator at The Outdoor School at Rancho Alegre, you will play a pivotal role in training cabin leaders, curriculum and program development, and delivering our educational programs. This is a full-time seasonal position, and housing is provided during the season's start and end dates.
Season Dates:
March 25th - June 7th, with the possibility of signing on for our 2024-2025 school year.
Responsibilities:
- Lead cabin leader training and serve as the first contact for cabin leaders.
- Assist in curriculum and program development, working directly with the Director.
- Lead curriculum-based hikes, nature walks, and environmental education activities for student groups.
- Facilitate hands-on learning experiences, including wildlife observation, plant identification, and nature exploration.
- Collaborate with fellow Naturalists and program staff to coordinate logistics, schedule activities, and ensure the smooth operation of programs.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment for students, encouraging curiosity, exploration, and respect for nature.
- Serve as a positive role model for students, embodying principles of environmental stewardship, conservation, and outdoor ethics.
- Maintain equipment, supplies, and program materials, ensuring proper care and organization.
- Assist in staff training and professional development opportunities.
- Participate in conflict resolution and discipline through positive behavioral management.
- Be available point of contact/ on call by phone and to assist staff as needed, during all scheduled programs.
- Ability to be on call one night a week
- Ability to hike 5+ miles a day
Qualifications:
- College degree or 2+ years of experience in the outdoor education field.
- Strong knowledge of outdoor recreation activities, environmental science concepts, and experiential learning methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience in program planning, coordination, and evaluation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience working with diverse populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and individuals with special needs.
- Passion for outdoor education, environmental conservation, and youth development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual in Spanish
- 3 years of Outdoor Education Experience
- 1+ years in management
