Job Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a crucial role in providing quality patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of medical facilities. Working under the direction of healthcare professionals, CMAs perform a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to support the delivery of healthcare services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Care: Assist healthcare providers in performing medical procedures and examinations, including taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, and assisting with minor surgeries.
- Medical Records: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records, including documenting patient history, updating medications, and recording test results.
- Administrative Support: Perform various administrative tasks, such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and processing insurance forms.
- Patient Education: Provide patients with information about their health conditions, medications, and treatment plans, and assist in patient education programs.
- Infection Control: Adhere to infection control protocols, including maintaining cleanliness and sterility in examination rooms and equipment.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure proper functioning and maintenance of medical equipment and instruments, and report any malfunctions or issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Medication Management: Administer medications as directed by healthcare providers, including injections, immunizations, and prescriptions.
- Communication: Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare team members to ensure coordinated and efficient patient care.
- Compliance: Adhere to all relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA regulations, and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Professional Development: Stay updated on current medical practices and procedures through continuing education and training opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a certified medical assistant program from an accredited institution.
- Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) from a recognized accrediting body, such as the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, procedures, and basic pharmacology.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Proficiency in computer skills, including electronic medical record (EMR) systems and medical billing software.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Commitment to providing compassionate and patient-centered care.
- Willingness to adhere to strict confidentiality standards and ethical principles.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing job duties and responsibilities as needed.
- CPR certification may be required, depending on the healthcare setting.
