Job Summary/Description: This entry-level, professional position is responsible for library instruction of undergraduate and dual-credit students in various classroom modalities, developing and maintaining video tutorials and research guides. It assists with research services, collection development, and the liaison program as assigned. Reports to the Assistant Director of Academic Engagement within the Research and Collections unit.
Typical Duties/Job Duties: - Teaches information literacy concepts to undergraduate and dual-credit students in various classroom settings (including face-to-face, virtual, and hybrid; synchronous or asynchronous) using appropriate technology and active teaching strategies that are in line with best professional practices to support all modalities of learning. Applies inclusive pedagogical approaches to enhance student-centered learning environments.
- Stays current on emerging instructional technologies to create videos, PowerPoint presentations, Research Guides, and other digital resources to develop information literacy skills among the campus community with a focus on undergraduate students.
- Maintains library research guides as assigned while working with faculty and library colleagues to determine content adjustments or new topics. Ensures the guides follow best practices as directed by the Asst. Dir. of Academic Engagement.
- Provides research assistance/reference services to ASU students and faculty in Blackboard discussion forums, consultations, via telephone and email or face to face interactions. Scheduled research assistance hours include evening and weekend rotations. Utilizes digital and print resources to answer research questions.
- Assists the Asst. Dir. of Academic Engagement with academic outreach efforts and the promotion of information literacy services through workshops, programming, and partnerships.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Ability to independently manage a schedule of instructional requests from faculty and otherwise navigate the various roles of the position.
- Knowledge of general practices for library instruction, assessment, accessibility, and research service.
- Knowledge of information literacy needs of a typical undergraduate student.
- Ability to use and stay current on instructional design applications/technologies and/or learning management systems and learning theories to enhance library instruction.
- Skilled in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite of products with emphasis on Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Knowledge of how modern Integrated Library Systems and Discovery Systems function.
- Ability to build and maintain positive rapport with students and faculty, as well as library staff.
Minimum Qualifications: - Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) or (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent; Graduate students in their final semester of library school may be considered.
- Graduated with basic knowledge of academic library functions to include reference and collection development.
- Skill with MS Office Suite applications.
Preferred Qualifications: - Experience searching library resources in an online discovery system.
- Experience working with reference/research services, instruction, or educational technology in an academic setting.
Physical Requirements: Position requires visual acuity; may also include full range of motion including, but not limited to standing, sitting, walking, talking, hearing, reaching, crouching, pushing/pulling up to 30 lbs., lifting up to 15 lbs., carrying up to 10 lbs., and manual dexterity.
