Job description

Seeking a motivated assistant Project Manager for a diverse and growing custom stainless and millwork/casework fabricating facility. Must be a fan of continuous improvement, have good people skills, sense of humor, thick skin, and great work ethic.

Must be highly detailed and organized. Will be responsible for working with Senior project managers and our customers to complete complex projects from start to finish. The assistant project manager is responsible for extensive and close coordination with the Senior Project Management staff as they coordinate communication of design changes, travel, change orders, and deviations with the customer, engineering, and estimating, and coordination and communication between the customer and production throughout the project.

The assistant PM will aid with compiling product data submittals, Warranty/Care and Maintenance information, coordinating and transmitting samples and approvals, data recording and data management for large, complex nationally based projects. Additionally, the assistant PM will aid in keeping internal and customer dashboards up to date and accurate, complete investigations into cost savings and alternate suppliers for a wide range of specialty materials, as well as cataloging experiences and manufacturing information in the systems already developed by Great Lakes Stainless.

The assistant PM position ideally will prepare the individual for eventual promotion to Senior Project manager, and thus will include additional duties and responsibilities as required.

Familiarity with ISO quality management and lean manufacturing processes is a plus, and proficiency with spreadsheets and typical office software a must. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected to include maximizing utilization of the shop computer systems, customer communication, and awareness of the current state of projects under management at all times.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Assists with project set up, samples, and date and data management.
  2. High level of organization and documentation of job communication regarding scope, quality, and delivery to ensure customers are clear with design and delivery intent.
  3. Responsible to work with PM in compiling and transmitting submittal data, including cut sheets, materials, and samples in accordance with the specifications and drawings.
  4. Responsible for creating and maintaining a sample board for each project including material supplier and lead time information with all approved finishes, including control samples for every specified finish.
  5. Assist PM on job sites as required.
  6. Research materials and suppliers on specialty materials to maximize profit and facilitate on-time delivery.
  7. Assist with final inspections and documentation, including photographs.
  8. Regularly review and update system data and dates to keep customer and internal dashboards up to date.
  9. Monitors and reports job costs on an ongoing basis, reporting weekly status to the management team.
  10. Create and update project overviews for the use of the production team.
  11. Other duties as required by the department/company.
  12. Frequent computer use at workstation up to two hours at a time.
  13. Frequently work at fast pace with unscheduled interruptions.
  14. Responsibilities occasionally may require an adjusted work schedule, overtime, and evening/weekend hours in order to meet deadlines.
  15. May move from one work location to another occasionally.
  16. Public contact position requiring appropriate business-like apparel.
  17. Demonstrated ability to do excessive sitting, walking, standing, bending and stooping.
  18. Demonstrated ability to lift up to 20-50 pounds.
  19. Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
  20. Access information using a computer.
  21. Demonstrated ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations.
  22. Occasional inter-state and intra-state travel to job sites as required.

Minimum Requirements:

The position requires either experience in the field or job related experience in a related area and familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures, or educations courses related to project management. CAD experience helpful but not required.
