Dormitory Head at a Teen Summer Arts Program

Dormitory Head:
Being a Dorm Head at The Putney School Summer Arts is a rewarding and challenging experience with endless opportunities for personal growth, building professional connections and gaining skills in working with teenagers. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide students with consistent and caring residential support
- Build and maintain a happy and inclusive dorm culture, including cleanliness and safety
- Maintain, implement, and monitor student schedules, whereabouts, and attendance
- Support healthy and positive student habits including timekeeping, sleeping, eating, hygiene, full program participation, and socializing
- Supervise students in all activities outside of their workshops e.g. free time, weekends, evenings, off-campus trips etc
- Plan and lead an arts activity two evenings per week
- Plan, lead, and implement other campus-wide activities, trips, and events
- Form positive, professionally appropriate relationships with students to further enhance their summer experience
Work Hours and Benefits:
- Mandatory staff training from Wednesday, June 19th through Friday, June 28, 2024
- Program runs from Sunday, June 30th through Friday, July 26, 2024
- One 24-hour day off per week
- Regular time off daily on rotation with fellow Dormitory Heads
- Additional $250 stipend for returning staff
- Room and board (vegan & gluten free meal options available)
- Private room within dorm building, with common shared bathrooms
- Gain experience working with teenagers aged 14-17
- Residential Life curriculum planning and teaching experience
- Comprehensive training including First Aid & CPR
- Opportunity to visit museums, participate in farm work and cultural activities together with students and colleagues

Our ideal Dorm Head candidate:
- Responsible, reliable, punctual and flexible
- Experienced and interested in working with teenagers
- Has previous summer camp experience
- Enthusiastic with excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Interest in the outdoors
- Must be 21 years of age or above
- Must be eligible to work in the US for the duration of the program
Desired but not required:
- Lifeguard certification
- First Aid training
- Experience working in the education field
- AV tech / event management
- Photography
- Gallery coordination experience
- Camping / hiking experience
- Valid driver’s license
- School Bus driver endorsement that is valid in Vermont
Things to expect at Putney Summer Arts:
- Long work days with changing schedules
- No smoking or vaping for the duration of the program
- No alcohol, drugs or illicit substances for the duration of the program
- No internet-ready devices (including smart watches) outside of your room
