Job description

The Controller will play a key role in supporting our team with the accounting expertise needed to drive advancements in health outcomes. This role reports to the Director of Finance.

- Provide leadership and technical support/training to accounting department in general
- Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies
- Align processes with resources to maximize efficiency & eliminate potential errors in reporting
- Develop, implement, and maintain financial controls and guidelines to ensure compliance with company policies and government agencies.
- Oversees the payroll process and prepares payroll reports, including reconciliation for tax reporting purposes
- Oversees the financial close process, including completing all financial transactions, expense allocations & accruals for the month, quarter, and year while ensuring no errors or discrepancies recorded in the financial statements before publication.
- Work closely with FP&A / Analytics on annual budget and monthly budget-to-actual reporting metrics.
- Effectively communicates with department leads regarding accounting procedures, departmental spending, and the impact to departmental budgets.
- Prepares / oversees preparation of ad hoc reports as requested
- Working knowledge of inner-company transactions
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
- Hire, train, and oversee the scheduling, assignments, and daily workflow of accounting staff
- Handles termination process for direct reports as needed
- Resolve conflicts and make decisions aligned with company priorities
- Foster an environment of trust and collaboration
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education, credentials, and/or trainings required
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred
- CPA required
Knowledge/skills/abilities required
- Minimum of ten (10) years of work experience as Senior Accountant or related Finance experience
- Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis
- Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting
- Experience in managing payroll, with focus on streamlining accounting processes
- Oversee and support accounting team with dynamic leadership that creates an environment of trust and productivity.
- Experience supporting Shared Services and affiliate entities
- Thorough understanding of bookkeeping procedures and practices including a strong working knowledge of cash vs. accrual basis accounting
- Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and team and organizational budgets and actual expenditures.
- Ability and conviction to train in related practices and procedures regarding bookkeeping, general ledger preparation,
- Desire to continually learn and improve personally and professionally; foster and encourage the same desire with direct reports
- Ability to provide insights into the financial health of a company and identify areas of concern.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to manage time and maintaining an eye for detail
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions thoroughly
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly in Excel to automate repetitive tasks, create functional worksheets, and streamline data analysis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to represent Accounting & Finance Department by effectively communicating financial information to employees, shareholders, and other interested parties
- Proficient in QuickBooks Online use preferred
Supervisory responsibilities
- Supervisory responsibilities are required including ability to train & mentor accounting team members
