Please Note: This is a School Health Nurse position working 10-months out the year using leave or leave without pay (LWOP) for two months.

Salary will be $2,307.70 biweekly, $60,000.00 pro-rated for 10 months (50,769.40), 22 bi-weekly pay periods at $2,307.70 per pay period.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This is a senior community health nursing position functioning in the specialized area of school health program. The position involves work in areas geographically removed from direct supervision. The position also functions as a team leader for unlicensed school health aides in the public school system. Work is performed under the supervision of a community health nursing supervisor.

Provides and documents nursing management to students to include Interviewing, counseling, health education, and assessment. Examines students and documents findings.

Assist with obtaining and inputting data for grants and projects. Participates in back-to-school events and childhood immunizations. Assists in orienting new School Health Nurses.

Develops care plans for specific student health needs. Plans and implements screening programs. Make referrals to other agencies or programs on abnormal screening results and tracks to completion. Prepares required reports.

Assess the need for, plan, develop, and implement health education classes for students, teachers, community, and parents according to Department of Health/School Board guidelines.

Monitor’s performance of non-licensed school clinic staff according to Department of Health/School Board guidelines.

Perform case management for students. Conducts home visits on students with potential or identified health needs.

Coordinate’s planning and implementation of systems to validate immunization levels.

Preceptor for Nursing Students

Review and maintains student’s school health records according to Department of Health/School Board guidelines.

Functions on community and agency committees as assigned. Participates in school health training programs and required meetings.

Active Membership in the School Health Advisory Council

Participation and lead for 5210 in at least one public school

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be able to ambulate more than 100 feet, lift more than 20 pounds, bend, stand for more than 20 minutes. Must have a current Florida Driver’s license and be able to drive own vehicle or FDOH vehicle to and from schools, meetings, and community events throughout St. Lucie County. Must have a current certification in cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Must be adept at public speaking.
