Job Description: Syracuse University seeks a full-time statistician to support research projects and collaborate with investigators affiliated with a growing network of interdisciplinary institutes and centers in the areas of public health promotion, population health and aging, public policy, social and behavioral health, and veteran/military well-being.The statistician will provide statistical design expertise and conduct analyses of data derived from a variety of sources, including but not limited to epidemiologic observational and survey studies, randomized controlled trials, longitudinal studies, data from administrative sources, and mixed-methods studies. Preference will be given to candidates who have experience with biostatistics, causal models, mixed and/or multilevel models, survival analyses, and spatial analysis.This position will support collaborative research for investigators, trainees, and other staff affiliated with Syracuse University Centers and Institutes (e.g., the Center for Social and Behavioral Health Science, the D'Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families, the Center for Policy Research, the Lerner Center for Public Health Promotion and Population Health, the Aging Studies Institute, and the Center for Aging and Policy Studies).
Qualifications: Doctoral degree with a focus in statistics. Preference will be given to candidates that also have substantive interests in social, demographic, or public health sciences. Candidates with a masters degree and substantial professional experience may also be considered.
Job Specific Qualifications: - Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Good interpersonal skills in collaborating with investigators and a 'team-oriented' approach.
- Ability to apply a range of advanced standard statistical techniques in support of scientific research studies.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency.
- Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data, process computer data, format and generate reports, and prepare data visualizations.
- Knowledge of commonly used statistical packages (e.g., Stata, R, SAS, SPSS, Mplus, ArcGIS).
- Knowledge of statistical sampling and survey methodology.
Responsibilities: - Collaborate on grant proposals and sponsored projects, manuscripts, reports, presentations, and other deliverables focusing on study designs, data analysis strategies, results and interpretations, and data visualizations.
- Assist investigators by analyzing primary and secondary data sets using various statistical packages.
- Collecting primary data, including contributing to study design and managing data collection (with platforms such as Qualtrics and REDCap).
- Develop, implement, and coordinate processes that align with project goals in consultation with faculty investigators.
- Advise investigators on appropriate methodologies, statistical techniques, and resources to implement and maintain projects.
- Work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in a team-based environment.
- Consult with Institute/Center Directors on resource allocation across projects.
