Software Development Engineer, AWS Reliability Services

Amazon Development Center U.S., Inc.

Location

Herndon, VA | United States

Job description

DESCRIPTION

AWS Fault Injection Service is a fully managed service for running fault injection experiments on AWS that makes it easier to improve an application’s performance, observability, and resiliency. Fault injection experiments are used in chaos engineering, which is the practice of stressing an application in testing or production environments by creating disruptive events, such as sudden increase in CPU or memory consumption, observing how the system responds, and implementing improvements.

We are currently hiring Software Engineers at all levels to help us execute on our exciting vision for this service. As a Software Development Engineer on the AWS Reliability Services team you will have the opportunity to collaborate on delivering impactful customer facing product features across the full end-to-end development lifecycle; from prototyping, design, planning, coding, testing, deployment, and operations.

If this sounds like the right challenge for you, then please apply today!

Key job responsibilities
- Work with the team to help solve business problems.
- Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain innovative software solutions to transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
- Use software engineering best practices to ensure a high standard of quality for all of the team deliverables.
- Write high quality distributed system software.
- Work in an agile, startup-like development environment, where you are always working on the most important stuff.

About the team
AWS FIS was launched in early 2021. Since that time the team has now expanded to 5 teams in 3 locations. This is still a relatively new and greenfield service with many great opportunities for innovation.

Mentorship and Career Growth:
Our engineers and leaders come from diverse perspectives and backgrounds across technology and beyond, and are excited to share their experiences and mentor more junior engineers. Team members are encouraged to set up mentorships with senior engineers on our team, but also across the broader Amazon population.

Work-Life Balance:
Our team also puts a high value on work-life balance. Striking a healthy balance between your personal and professional life is crucial to your happiness and success here. We’re happy to offer a flexible schedule so you can have a more productive and well-balanced life—both in and outside of work.

We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:

Arlington, VA, USA | Herndon, VA, USA

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
- Experience programming with at least one software programming language
