POSITION SUMMARY
As a Laboratory Assistant II will be part of a local team in the processing and analyzing of veterinary patient samples at our clinical diagnostic laboratories. The Laboratory Assistant II must be available to work weekends, holidays, and evening/night shift hours as needed. Colleague’s schedule is flexible and at times, will be required to work overtime.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Experience in a clinical laboratory setting is strongly desired.
- Day-to-day responsibilities include, assisting the team providing clerical support to in ordering, cataloging, and maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment; checks out learning materials and maintains records; conduct annual inventory of supplies and equipment; assists with scheduling of learning facility. Assist in the preparation of reports, correspondence, and lab attendance.
- Assist in routine laboratory maintenance, including equipment maintenance, maintaining lab cleanliness and a safe laboratory environment.
- Accurately enter all sample request information into the laboratory information management system (LIS).
- Perform instrument preventative maintenance, quality assurance, and patient testing (not reporting).
- Prepares laboratory specimens for designated departments/locations prior to laboratory analysis and testing and unpacks specimens and routes specimens by type to various staging areas
- Prepares all specimens received for testing in designated laboratory departments or locations and prepares excess specimen samples for storage and resolves and documents problem specimens.
- Organizes work by matching computer orders with specimen labeling, sorting specimens, checking labeling, logging specimens, arranging reports for delivery, keeping work surfaces clean and orderly
- Participate in all applicable safety training sessions. Know the location and contents of the safety manual. Know the location/use of all applicable safety equipment.
- Performing such activities as specimen processing, labeling and preparation of specimens as required.
- Know and adhere to all applicable Quality Management SOPs and Policies. Be an active participant in ZRL’s Quality Management System.
- Performing assigned technical work under the direct supervision of a manager.
- Must be available for evenings as needed and rotating weekends.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum requirement:
- HS Diploma or GED Equivalent; some college education is highly desirable.
- Recent phlebotomy or RVT/CVT program graduates are highly desirable.
- 1-2 years in a clinical laboratory setting or equivalent.
- Applicants should be detail-oriented, flexible, and quick to learn, as well as be proficient in data entry and organizational abilities.
- Able to work productively, effectively, and independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to handle multiple task systems simultaneously.
- Effective verbal and written communication, especially listening skills
- Detailed orientated about data entry and excellent typing skills.
- Strong computer skills and ability to work within Windows and Laboratory Information System environments.
- Must be comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
SHIFT TIMES: Mon-Fri 7:00 am-3:30 pm, rotating weekends
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Medical background or experience with laboratory testing terminology or a strong aptitude to learn terminology is highly preferred.
- Experience in the veterinary or human clinical laboratory field is strongly preferred, but not required.

PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Able to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Able to lift to 50lbs
