As a Telecommunication Operator Communication Specialist, you will provide quick and accurate processing of all telecommunications needs. Our department works as a team, and has the satisfaction of helping other caregivers, patients, and providers every day. Responsibilities:
- Receives records and responds to all phone calls, emergency calls and oxygen alarms.
- Answers all incoming phone calls on a multi-function phone system.
- Responds to general inquiries and calls for emergency requests, suspicious persons, medical emergencies, suicides, bomb threats, and other crisis calls.
- Processes calls according to given situation.
- Determines priority and protocol and dispatches security personnel accordingly. Operates Nortel console.
- Receives and screens all incoming and outgoing calls to determine proper routing and provide system usage information and assistance.
- Answers all calls identifying facility, operator's name with appropriate greeting, i.e.: 'Good Morning, Cleveland Clinic Florida, this is XXXXX, how may I direct your call?' Places and records all outgoing local, long distance and international call for physicians and other clinic personnel.
- Operates page console and associated equipment.
- Provides in-house, long-range and paging services for clinic staff and outside callers.
- Notifies proper personnel during traumas and medical emergencies.
- Assists clinic personnel in contact on-call physicians and staff physicians, provides outside callers with medical assistance by directing to appropriate service.
- Operates fax machine. Utilizes machine to transmit information to our other facilities and departments.
- Performs answering service duties for physicians and special services. Takes and delivers messages for staff physician, residents and other clinic personnel upon request. Answers and contacts proper personnel as required.
- Answers incoming calls in a prompt, efficient, and professional manner, request are determined and expedited to meet callers' needs.
- Handles emergency calls on the emergency phone line designated for same-medical emergencies.
- Activates emergency code pagers and making necessary phone calls to responding personnel.
- Maintains emergency log for records.
- Assists as back up for security emergency line and responding after two rings if not answered.
- Handles paging of requests, announcements, etc., in a professional and efficient manner in a clear speaking voice.
- Processes and distributes the on-call schedule on a weekly and timely basis.
- Handles change in schedule and late additions with efficiency and minimal difficulty.
- Maintains inventory and distributes surgical scrubs when working the early shift.
- Processes and distributes the on-call schedule on a weekly and timely basis.
- Participates in Performance Improvement Teams as assigned.
- Consistently processes all patient information according to HIPAA policy and procedure adhering to patient's rights and confidentiality.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High School diploma or GED preferred.

Work Experience:
- Basic minimum 1 year Switchboard experience preferred.
- Experience with Nortel phone system and experience in medical/hospital environment preferred.
- Demonstrate knowledge of CRT/PC operation.
- Knowledge of Nortel console and pate equipment.
- Knowledge of placing local, long distance, overseas calls, directory information and oral paging.
- Good computer, oral and written communication, customer service and interpersonal skills required.
- Knowledge of the fax machine.
- Clear and concise speaking voice.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods
- Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment
- Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $15.00
Maximum hourly: $18.44
