On-Call Site Cook - Head Start

Job description

The Site Cook is responsible for providing a nutritious breakfast/snack and lunch for all children. Cooks will comply with all required standards and regulations. The site cook will interact with children and assist with cooking projects and mealtime experiences.

Candidates must submit an application by 3/22/24 to be considered for first-round interviews.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or GED and one year experience in cooking for groups of 25 or more people.
• Must have knowledge of basic nutrition and meal planning using USDA guidelines.
• Demonstrate knowledge of basic cooking skills, nutrition, and be able to follow quantity recipes.
• Possess good organizational, record keeping, and math skills.
• Knowledge of infant, toddlers, and preschooler nutritional needs and age appropriate eating habits and food guidelines.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

• Registration with the Central Background Registry of the Child Care Division.
• Valid Oregon Driver's License and insured vehicle available for use on the job or acceptable alternative
• Has or has the ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification and Food Handler's Certification.
• Initial physical examination as required

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive.

• Food preparation, cooking, and cleaning.
• Prepares food in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and USDA guidelines.
• Follows recipes and cycles menu to ensure consistent quality food to all children.
• Completes food service records and all other required documentation. Submits as scheduled to Food Service Supervisor.
• Central Food Distribution of weekly food orders.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

• Use of kitchen equipment including, but not limited to range, oven, steamer, dishwasher, and various kitchen utensils; occasionally required to operate a motor vehicle.
• The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Employee will be standing for the majority of the workday.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Indoor work environment with frequent interruptions and demands.
• Variable and flexible work hours.
• Work environment is occasionally warm, humid and temperatures vary (particularly in/near refrigerators and freezers and appliances).
