As the Chief Nurse within the Division of Women, Children, and Nursing Services at the Georgia Department of Public Health, you will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.
Job Responsibilities Pay Grade: R
This position provides state-wide leadership for Public Health nursing practice. Serves as Director for the Office of Nursing and provides leadership and guidance to senior nurses responsible for nurse protocols and training requirements, school health, emergency preparedness, and education and professional development.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: - Plans, organizes, and directs the development, implementation, and evaluation of public health nursing roles in programs including women's health, child health, chronic disease, communicable disease, and emergency preparedness.
- Develops and manages the strategic plan for Public Health Nursing and provides leadership to assure optimum support for and utilization of nurses in an ever-changing environment.
- Responsible for working to increase effective communication and coordination between local Public Health staff and DPH programs.
- Directs the formulation and development of policies to support clinical service delivery and other initiatives and programs as indicated.
- Serves as a member of the Department's policy development team.
- Provides supervision, leadership, and support for the Office of Nursing staff.
- Responsible for assuring nurse protocols and policy and procedures for nurse training are up to date, follow national recommendations and standards of care, and meet the public health service delivery needs.
- Responsible for assuring nursing processes are in place for emergency response including sheltering during public health emergency events.
- Responsible for assuring leadership for school health nursing including guidance and support for compliance with legislative requirements.
- Responsible for assuring leadership and efficient processes are in place for continuing medical and nursing education.
- Responsible for assuring the provision of Public Health Nursing's Health Assessment Course.
- Serves as a member of the DPH/District Annex Review Committee.
- Serves as a member of Division Leadership.
Minimum Qualifications Doctorate or Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health or related field from an accredited college or university AND Ten years of professional nursing management/supervisory experience AND Current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license.
Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in Public Health.
Experience in public health nursing.
