Qualifications:
- Education / Experience: Associates Degree in Sciences (biology, chemistry, food science, etc.) or equivalent training or experience in the food industry
General Summary
The Analytical Laboratory Technician provides essential support to the Analytical Laboratory by ensuring raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods are sampled, prepared for testing, tested and approved with proper paperwork in a timely manner. Responsibilities encompass both product safety and quality parameters as appropriate. This position will be assigned to off shift hours (second or third shift or a combination of both) and be required to work on weekends if needed.
Principal Accountabilities
This role delivers timely and sufficient data and detailed information to drive continuous improvement and customer service on a daily basis. Specific accountabilities include:
- Notification of appropriate personnel of the status of raw materials
- Sampling of raw materials as they are received
- Testing raw materials, intermediate products and finished goods for the following
- Specific gravity
- Refractive index
- Infrared (IR)
- pH
- Melting point
- Color
- Taste preparation and analysis
- Peroxide values
- Moisture analysis
- Gas chromatograph (GC) sample entry
- Equipment calibrations as required
- Verification of raw material identity and supporting documentation
- Documentation and recordkeeping
- Other duties as assigned
A designated trained employee shall be assigned by the PS&Q Analytical Manager as a back-up for this position on an as needed basis.

Position Scope
This position will manage simple projects. Projects will be simple to moderately complex in nature and may require close to moderate supervision.
Working Conditions
Working environment is mainly laboratory setting with some interaction in an office. Daily interaction in the manufacturing environment while sampling raw materials. Need to be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
Must have a clear understanding of material and equipment hazards and be able to perform duties in a safe manner utilizing recognized safe practices and / or appropriate personal protective equipment. Must notify supervisor promptly of any unsafe acts or conditions.
