STDT SVC ADVISOR 3 (Graduate Student Academic Program Coordinator) Department Description
Department Purpose The Department of Agricultural & Resource Economics is a large complex academic department with 24 ladder faculty, 6 cooperative extension specialists, 3 academic federation faculty, and 10 Unit-18 lecturers. The department provides instructional, research, and outreach programs. This position is part of a team of two who manage all aspects of ARE's advising and student services graduate and undergraduate programs.
Job Summary Under general supervision of the ARE Graduate Program Chair, Department Chair and CAO, this position will independently manage the MS, MS/MBA and PhD programs in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics (ARE). Duties and responsibilities include: advising students and faculty on academic policy and participating in program develop and implementation. Specifically, plan, manage and implement all aspects of recruitment and admissions process, develop graduate education policies in consultation with program leadership, and provide academic advising to the faculty, students and staff. Develop, analyze and interpret admission, recruitment, curriculum and advising services policies. Provide in-depth, wide-range and complex academic advising; perform articulation for course requirements; communicate and develop policies and procedures that ensure compliance with Graduate Studies rules, regulations, and deadlines; independent analysis, interpretation and administration of numerous and intricate regulations, policies, and operations; oversee retention and various operations for enrolled graduate students; provide proactive advisement, monitor progress from matriculation through degree conferral. Perform analytical writing for program reviews including synthesizing statistics and information on student admissions, student performance, program funding, faculty involvement, and alumni placement. Create and implement outreach efforts and events. In coordination with graduate program chair, department chair and CAO, develop and manage the ARE Graduate Program budget including block grants, fellowships, awards, work-study funds, and operating funds. Assist in supervising ARE student services administrative staff.

- Valid California driver's license to operate UC vehicles for transportation of materials, attend meetings, and travel to local area and to make occasional trips on-and off-campus sites. QUALIFICATIONS Required: Minimum Education/Experience
- Experience advising and counseling graduate students in a college/university environment.
- Experience using a variety of computer software including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, database, e-mail, and web browsers.
- Experience operationalizing procedures to enhance service delivery. Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
- Knowledge of graduate degree requirements and advising systems to prepare official major certifications, develop student academic plans, and guide/track graduate students through academic planning.
- Knowledge of admissions criteria for new students; articulation agreements with other universities/colleges for transfer students, and applicability of credit from other institutions.
- Interpersonal, customer service and communication skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages and cultural backgrounds and perspectives.
- Analytical skills to evaluate and interpret complex policies, procedures and reference materials that apply to graduate students.
- Writing, editing and proofreading skills to answer correspondence, write reports and develop informational materials. Preferred: Preferred Education/Experience
- Experience with budgeting and interpreting financial statements. Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)
- Knowledge of BANNER, SLATE Graduate Student Location Inventory (GSI), GradHub, Internal Fellowship Nomination Manager, and other web-based tools.
- Knowledge of department academic goals and programs, requirements, and educational options; options/specializations offered in the graduate groups; and faculty research interests.
- Knowledge of general objectives and policies of the unit and campus concerning various graduate programs, and non-traditional and international constituencies.
- Familiarity with academic and social problems confronting students from diverse backgrounds college settings.
