POLICE OFFICER The City of Newark, Delaware, a professionally managed and growing university community, is accepting applications from qualified individuals for the position of police officer. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license with no recent suspension, have no felony convictions, meet pre-employment assessment requirements, and be a U.S. citizen. Applicants must also possess an associate’s degree or its equivalent (minimum 60 credits) OR 30 credits with military service (minimum military service shall be 2+ years service to a commitment; commitment shall be 3+ years Active or 6+ years Reserve/Guard). Certified police officers are exempt from the education requirement. This is a rewarding career opportunity that offers a competitive salary, participation in the State of Delaware County and Municipal Pension Plan, and excellent fringe benefit program. Starting salary is $61,964 with possibility for rapid advancement. HIRING BONUS: The City will provide a $10,000 hiring bonus to new hires that are not already sworn police officers. For prior sworn police officers, the City will provide a $20,000 hiring bonus to new hires that are certified police officers in any state. The hiring bonus is payable upon completing of field training (approximately 9-12 months after date of hire for non-certified officers and 6-12 weeks after Delaware certification for certified officers. Applicants will undergo an extensive screening process which includes a written test (offered weekly following completed application), physical fitness assessment, oral interview, background investigation, polygraph test, physical examination, and psychological evaluation. Accommodations can be made for the written test and physical assessment for those living 100+ miles from Newark. The City of Newark is looking to hire a minimum of 12 police officers.
