Job description

Provides YSU students with short-term, culturally sensitive strength and needs assessment, campus and community linkage, mental health services, crisis intervention, data tracking, clinical documentation and consultation and collaboration services (with appropriate release of information). Clinical interventions will be focused on promoting emotional stabilization to help students remain safe and reach their goals to become successful. All services provided will be done so in a confidential and ethical manner defined by the Ohio CSWMFT Board.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Reviews and tracks daily Penguin of Concern (POC) referrals. 

Conduct reach-out and crisis response services to students referred through POC. 



Maintain assigned caseload. 



Attends daily morning clinical meetings with department to review POC referrals. 



Attends weekly CARE meeting. Collaborates with administrators and non-clinical campus staff regarding student needs. Participates with team to provide comprehensive behavioral intervention and threat assessment solutions. Works to achieve team's goals to adhere to and improve safety policies and protocols on campus. 



Maintains timely and comprehensive non-clinical and clinical counseling records. Tracks POC referrals and maintains clinical records in an electronic health record database, i.e. Titanium, following Ohio licensure documentation guidelines and ethical standards.



Provides daily consultation to administrators, faculty, and staff with respect to student issues and mental health concerns, following Ohio licensure confidentiality guidelines.   



Makes appropriate academic, career, and mental health referrals to the campus and/or the community. Monitors students and clients use of campus and area services, and the impact this has on the student's progress and personal development.



Utilizes, maintains, and stays abreast of new technology, diagnostic criteria, and state rule and guideline changes that relate to mental health counseling and higher education.



Establishes trusting, ethical, and confidential relationships with students/clients.



Implements campus clinical counseling services per program policies and procedures. Conducts assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and case planning; delivers evidence-based treatment interventions, monitoring, and evaluation of client progress. Maintains electronic documentation and provision of related services.



Displays awareness and behavior needed for growth and development.



Plans for crises/care coordination and helps clients develop coping mechanisms.



Networks with university and area services, understands eligibility requirements, and makes appropriate referrals.



Other Functions and Responsibilities:  Attends and participates in campus staff development programs, department related meetings, and other university assemblies and committees.



Meets individually with Director of SCS to review caseload and for supervision.



Engages in professional development activities.



Maintains mandatory licensing requirements on an annual basis. 



Responds to work-related phone calls and emails during non-business hours on occasion.



Performs other related duties as assigned.



Equipment Operated:  Computer and all other standard office equipment.



Work Schedule:  Typically, Monday through Friday; evenings and weekends, as necessary. 



Reports to: Director, Student Counseling Services

Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures:  Must be licensed in the State of Ohio as  a mental health therapist, LPC, LISW, or equivalent (appropriate to degree and training). 



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



Knowledge of: University policies and procedures*; office practices and procedures; department/division goals and objectives*; department/division policies and procedures*; workplace safety practices and procedures*; English grammar and spelling; records management; office management; project management. 



Skill in: Use of office equipment; typing, data entry; computer operation; use of computer software and other programs applicable to the assigned department/division*.

Minimum Qualifications:  At least a  master's degree in counseling, social work, or an equivalent field from a discipline-accredited program.  Licensed in State of Ohio as  a mental health therapist  LPC, LISW, or equivalent. Previous experience working with college bound Emerging Adults who express mental health needs and concerns. Previous experience working with a range of culturally and ethnically diverse populations. 



Preferred Qualifications:  Demonstrated prior Clinical Experience within a university or community counseling setting, including providing on-call and crisis response. Experience documenting all clinical encounters in an Electronic Health Record, specifically Titanium. Experience working with outreach programs and college athletic teams.
